and realize to truly judge this program we will have to wait another year or two.
With that said, Sat night performance was inexcusable, granted the layoff may have been a factor in the terrible shooting and out of sync they looked.
But, in year 3 of the program I would take Ark State and Brady over this team right now and that's not a very good sign.
I still don't get the Lynn Nance hire, he brings nothing to the recruiting table and I see less fundamentals out there than last year. To me it was a bad hire!

I've seen some things that are definitely better. I said even before the CMU game that as long as we stayed within 10-15 of teams in the second half we'd be in good shape since we can shoot our way of holes just like we did vs. the Chips.
White showed a lot of improvement offensively Saturday night as well. Stringer going out for half of the first half killed us however since it takes a legitimate scoring threat off the court.
Defensively they were pretty good. I think we turned CMU over 15 or so times...

it appeared to me that the players thought that they could play hard at the end and still win the game and that is exactly what happened. the intensity picked up in the last seven or so minutes. I think Johnson is a great coach and i think that was apparent from the SEC championship year. We are in a soft patch between what Brady left behind and what Johnson has been able to bring in and I think the team turns the corner big-time next year. I am pleasantly surprised so far this year in that Stringer and Turner are not under-acheiving like Dotson last year (who is playing a lot better this year). I think Derenbecker has been a disappointment so far and Warren and White are playing lazy, but i expect them and the team to compete hard in the SEC and learn some lessons that will help them be pretty good next year.

I disagree. We have a good group of core players. I don't know how many of you went to games last year, but I did. Last year was pathetic. This year is a vast improvement. There is a lot of potential in the bunch. Once we can get a few big difference makers in there namely guys like Ricardo Gathers and Johnny O'Bryant you'll see a difference.
Basketball is tougher to build up for a long time without a good foundation. LSU has never been a basketball school. It's going to take a bit to generate sustained success here.

+1
TJ will get this program right......but if we aren't competing for SEC by 2013.....red flag

this. I'm sure Trent could have gotten a bunch of one and dones but then where would the program be?

Once there are more talented high school players in La., I think we would have a good shot at contending for titles.

I maybe in the minority here but Stringer's arse needs to be bench for his shot selection until he can learn how to work within the offense to obtain an decent shot at the basket. I've watch a few games this year and he has a very bad shot selection. The last game he shot at least two three's from damn near half court. Yeah, he hits a shot like that every once in a while but damn run the offense until you get a good shot.

Not a big difference maker IMO. I've seen this dude play and he can't dribble or shoot worth a damn, but he can jump out the gym if that's the type of thing you're looking for.

ranked for one. Not saying we should do it, but you really do need to start showing some signs of progress.
We're living in a day and age where Butler was a basket short of winning the national championship. Programs need to sell what they have and deep tourny run with some one and dones would at least make the program relevant.

Thank you. That "solid foundation" argument is stale as hell. Plenty of top notch programs have one-and-dones. I'm more skeptical when players of that caliber stop coming.

Why do people think that LSU has the type of basketball pedigree to get a bunch of one and dones? Ya...maybe 1 or even 2 if we are extremely lucky. Now LSU did turn a non baseball school into a baseball powerhouse and all-time great....so i guess anything is possible. We have the resources...it's just gonna take the right coach and committment from the powers that be...

you would take a team that lost 5 of their first 6 and is 3-5 on the year? good call

Outside the big programs like UCLA, Carolina, Duke, Michigan State, Kansas etc. LSU has as much of a claim as anyone with some of the all time greats produced.

The b.b. team is lacking a penatrating guard. their problem is stringer is shooting guard playing point. he got frustrated with the defense and couldn't beat his man to the goal. thus, a lot of turnovers. It's why i felt k.c. miller was big loss and huge part of this class.
Coach new this going in. it's why he tried to feed white early in the game. white missed his first five shots. had white got off to a good start. they would have had to sag and open up the guards. It's also why he started using turner to drive and pass to the bigs.
this program is on solid footing. he out coached the other coach and it's why we won. c.m. didn't have a time out down the stretch. we had three. winded up being big.
trent johnson is a fantastic coach. brady can't and will not hold his jock when it's all said and done. we have a big boy coach. just be patient. he's building a program, not a team. lsu will make a final four run if not next year the year after.

You can't compare LSU to UK. That's apples to oranges. That's like comparing them to us in football. The two are on uneve ground.
UK is one of the most storied programs in nation in college basketball. Duke, UNC, UCLA, UK are the teams in that class. LSU had one and dones under Brady. Anthony Randolph couldn't make that shite team better.
Johnson has a good group. When they are getting into their prime we get the kids like O'Bryant here and it elevates the whole team.
Gathers is still just a sophomore too I think. Remember that. He can only get better.

Ark. St. is 3-6 right now.
We are 6-2.
