Figures that a liberal would be terrified of playing Oregon.
Your sig tells me all I need to know about you:
Take you and your hyperpartisan sig over to the Political Talk board where you belong. That shite has no business here.
Yeah. Last year, Boise played...Oregon for their home opener. This year, they opened with Virginia Tech (we destroyed Va. Tech in 2007 and it propelled us into the 2007 BCS Title game). Next year, Boise will play Georgia. Boise and TCU both played Oregon State this year (Beavs aren't a powerhouse, but they are scrappy as LSU fans should recall from 2004).
But the point is, we shouldn't be afraid to schedule anybody. Bring it on. Coaches with a damn strong football team shouldn't cower from a fight any more than a country with a damn strong military.

This
This would be a huge statement win for us. Why worry about scheduling games we may lose? I just don't get that

I see the fear in your eyes.
If JJ continues to play as he has played in the last two big games it should be a plus for LSU. Isn't 2011 the year most think we have a chance of winning it all again?

If we don't kick the shite out of VT in 2007, we don't win the MNC that year
It worked for us that year, but if we lose to Oregon and one more SEC game, we are most likely out of the NC picture. However, if we play all OOC creampuffs and lose one SEC game, we have a much better shot at the NC title, without having to play another good team along with the tough SEC schedule.

All too easy to explain your hyperpartisan sig line:

You, sir, are 1 million percent correct.
Anyone who thinks all OOC cupcakes are the answer needs to review the 2004 Auburn Tigers, who were shut out of the BCS Title game because their OOC opponents were very weak that year.

Another angle to think about and Miles stated it this year. I makes you prepare all summer with much more intensity, with more attention to detail that if you are playing ULL or Weber State. I love it.

Go play people.... I think it's great.

Why play a game that we could quite possibly lose
We could lose every game, but somehow our team manages to put their pads on and face the challenge week after week. We can beat Oregon in the first game or we can beat them in the last game. If we can't beat them, then we don't deserve to be champions.
I agree with the posts above. You are a coward. The LSU Tigers I know are not cowards.

Perhaps a mistake but I'm going to enjoy that game 20,000x more than an opening game against a N.Texas state or some other rent a win team.

CRAP!! A TEam that runs the Auburn/Ole Miss Offense. I hope our Defense figures this out over the next year!! or the ducks may get 700 yards offense

Let's say Oregon wins the title this year. Can you imagine how off the charts hyped up we are going to be the week building up to that match up?!
And how freaking awesome would it be to give the potentially undefeated National Champion their first loss for game one?
Now replace that thought with opening up the season in the same old fashion: against UL Lafayette.
You tell me which one makes the hair rise on the back of your head.

JIM712 don't know if you ever played sports, but when you have and you play against the best competion in brings out something special in a team or individual it is why you play the game. It makes you dig dip and find something you didn't know you had to achieve a common goal. Playing a team you know you can crush does not bring that out in a team or individual as much as coaches speak about treating every opponent the same it is not realistic to think that happens.

Couldn't agree more. We cover 2 possible National Champs next year, AU and Oregon, by default in head to head competition.
We beat the last 2 this year.
If you want to be the best, you have to play the best.
...."go ahead, be a Tiger."
(OK, maybe it has a different connotation now, but y'all get it)
