Sorry but that title is reserved for Art Cantrelle. The man was legendary mean
My father says Art was so mean his own teammates feared him. I've seen him a few times on several golf courses here on the coast. He still looks like he could cause serious pain.

But Peterson may be number two for his role in expanding our recruiting base and showing other OOS kids that they can make the long trip and have a great experience.
has he really done that though? have any of the recent OOS recruits mentioned this? or has it been the OOS guys we'd started getting earlier in the decade (JR, Bowe) and our status as a program?

I want to post an exerpt from a post I had created last year on the most imortant recruits over the last 25 years at LSU. Then you can read the history of the down turn and the return to National prominence in College Football. I would place the importance of Patrick Peterson as the most important recruit of the Les Miles era because of the impact he has had on the team with the resergence of the team this year.

I have to say I have truly injoyed everyones input to this thread. It shows just how informative the Rant is and what really makes it the best board on the 'net to me.
Yes I could have worded it differently, but at the time I was reading the articale that I posted at the beginning which gave me the idea and as I thought about starting this thread it revolved into what it is at the beginning. Even though I stated Most Important Recruit Ever in the History of LSU I should have said in the last 30 years. But then I thought for a second and said to myself that I remember the way that Harvey Williams first committed to LSU ans said you know he was really the first recruit that we got that know one thought that we where going to get, but Bill Arnsbarger thought that we really needed someone with a big name on this team to open recruiting so that he could get the big time recruits that was needed to compete on the big stage and compete for a National Championship. At the Bob Brodhead was the AD and he hired Bill Arnsbarger and Skip Bertman to make this University in Athletics one of the best in the country. By Harvey committing to LSU on national signing day in 1985 at his High School in Texas just outside of Texas A&M while walking through the halls on his way to make his announcement he heard the Texas A&M song being sang in the hall and out of spite he started whistling The LSU Fight Song and when he got to the mic he said he was going to school at LSU and then all of a sudden everyone got quiet and he said it again I am going to go to LSU to Football for the next four years. It was because of his signing that LSU got a number of big time recruits that year and the year after that led to LSU going 10-1 in 1988 and just missed winning the NC that year. So to me it was Harvey Williams at that time then because of a bad deccesion to hire Mike Archer which all the players wanted insted of going on a national search for a top notch coach they hired Archer and that was the start of the down turn of LSU for the next six years and then we hired Gerry Dinardo and he recruited and even visited Kevin Faulk to get him to stay at home and help put a fence around our state so that we can start getting our kids here in Louisiana to play for their team here at home so their families and freinds can come and see them play and make this a great big time program for all of us to be proud of. And we all know what has happened since then and after that when Saban came in as coach he did not have to spend a lot of here in state to get recruits all he needed to do was spend his time trying to get a few big time recruits around the South including Texas and that is what he did and that brings us up to today with Les Miles.
