What would Lee have done?

If he was in at the end of the game?
I think he lines back up and clocks the ball.
Once again bad coaching pulling Lee out of the game.

We we insist on switching players, not much he could have done either. I agree he appears to have much more presence that JJ, but the substitutions just completely fricked up the whole sequence.

I think he would have told a WR to get off the field and bring on Ridely!

I think Lee would have spiked it, but Les Miles admitted during a post game interview that there should have been a second play call or a call to spike the ball if they didn't get in, given to JJ and it didn't happen. Most QB's would understand that they need to spike it, without instructions from the coaching staff, but you can't blame it all on JJ.
Also, JJ was trying to get lined up, but with all of the attempts to substitude, I think it confused him. He couldn't snap the ball without everybody lined up and in place.

He would have saved Les/Crowton's arse by managing the last two plays a whole lot better.
JJ is just pitiful

I agree but jefferson paused for 5 secounds before that happened. Lee probally runs to the line and kills it.

True dat - making subs at this point was recipe for disaster.

So what is JJ's excuse for jumping on the ball?
Posted on 10/3/10 at 10:18 am to Catman88
He didn't want tennessee to score.

JJ continues to prove he's not a leader on the field.

I think he lines back up and runs an additional 2 plays.
EDIT: Of course, if the coaching staff would have still tried to run 3 players onto the field, even after Lee would have tried to set up the play quicker, then he might have spiked it. I still think he would have ran 2 additional plays though.

Clocking would not be the answer either. You waste a play with 26 seconds left.
I want two plays. You line it up and call a pass play, or a roll out run pass option.
Something that gives you a chance and gets the clock stopped for 4th down.

why is no one criticizing JL for his huge mental misstakes in that final drive?
we take a delay of game, THEN have to burn our final timeout because we're still not at the line of scrimmage ready to snap the ball.
we still have that timeout, the end of game trainwreck likely never happens.

Better than JJ jumping on the ball, he should have just moved out of the way and let a UT player jump on it. It would have had the exact same effect, but it least it would have removed the opportunity for him to get hurt and mess up his after party moves.

I think people are willing to give Lee a pass on that penalty, because he converted the 4th and 14, after the penalty, with a great throw and brought us into position to win the game. Also, most teams are able to run another play, quickly, or spike the ball, with or without the timeout.

as do i.
i'm referring to what happened after the penalty. we took our final timeout on the very next 25 sec of play clock b/c we still were not out of the huddle and set.

hopefully, he clocks the ball and calls a running play to ridley and a second play (another clock?). the problem is our coaches are in a panic mode and no play is forthcoming from the sideline. JL is screwed if he just runs a play but if i was him i'd at least clock it and let the chips fall.

Watch replay on DVR and as time is running out... The Commentators were saying how smart JJ was settle his team down prior to the last snap.

I think he was trying to get the play from the offensive coaching staff who wasted the time. He kept looking to the sideline waiting for it from them. (Watch the replay.)

If JL had played the whole game, we are likely not in position to lose at the end.
