Miles is fundamentally committed to running the ball over passing in a power I or whatever with a few safe short passes here and there. Low risk, low reward. With superb recruiting, a good defense and the one dimensional run offense he will always beat the Miss. States, the Vandy's, the La. Tech's, the U-L-Ls, the La-Monroe's and win 8 games a year, get bowl eligible.

He is content on being a middle of the road SEC team, the sort of Oklahoma State of the SEC West.

I am going to have to admit that his defense this year is better than any he had at Okie State. With a bad qb, he's not going to risk it until he has to.

Not the best idea, but what he's doing.

Not true they are still gun shy from 2008, he knows he just can't go out and give 8 win season's every year The FB program is the only way LSU makes any money at all start getting mediocre sales start slipping then they start losing money...lot more involved than just having a mediocre team year in and year out. If it keeps happening he'll be gone..It's just good business...

uumm that is not the whole story. Let me tell you, if you cannot run the ball you are not a championship team, if you do not have a great defense you are not a championship team. Same thing goes for special teams.

Great defense + great special teams and can run the ball = quality, championship team.

but what he is really wanting is a balanced attack, but is hell bent on having a quality running game. Why? Because you have to control the clock and keep the other offense off the field. Miles seems to understand all this yet nobody else can. Amazing i tell you

also, alot of bad things can happen when that ball is in the air. I personally think a great running game is a little more of an advantage. Look at any pro style offense (for the most part) and it is all built around the oline and a great running game. WIthout it, you cannot pass.

dreaux, I concur. People keep pointing out the emphasis on ball-control and running as if it is a bad thing.

We can lull them to sleep with the run, and surprise them with the pass.

bullshite. I have my problems with Miles but to think he is satisfied with mediocrity while Making $3.75 million a year is just stupid.

people don't understand what the problem is. crowton can't call a pass play because the o line can't pass block. it's been the same problem since the first game of '09. yet, people keep blaming jefferson, crowton, miles, anything except what the problem really is. oh, miles sucks. fire him.

I’ve seen the I formation a lot this year so for, especially in the second half of the Vandy game, but I have not seen the power I formation one time yet this year.

In any event, the only thing that is holding back this team at this point is Gary Crowton’s ultra conservative play calling. If GC ever starts pulling the trigger by opening up the passing game, this offense could explode, as it would also open up the running game as well.

i just think that you have to establish the run above all else. And since it has been getting better, i am sure he feels he would like as much practice at it as possible.

I have seen high octane offense's get stop dead in it's tracks because they cannot run the ball. Same hold true for a true running offense (ala georgia tech). But there is so many more advantages to a great running game vs passing. But I do believe a balanced attack is the best, and that is what we are aiming for, and i think it is coming along just fine.

How does one bad outing at Vanderbilt when he was ill translate into a bad QB? I mean wasn't he on the money against NC and again against MSU?

And also don't forget that we're still playing some very young receivers (including one who is playing receiver for the first time in his life) who are probably making mistakes on routes and have already dropped several passes that would have made JJ's stats look a lot better and would have helped us score more points.

So, relax. But, I do agree that the O-line needs to do a better job of pass protection.

All of this is why we are trying to establish the run in every game. Just don't forget, we have done this and have taken our shots downfield in every game this season. Maybe not as often as some would like, but that's not where we're at. Yet.

While the offensive line is a long way from being great it is significantly improved from last year, and there are ways to overcome this problem via play action, bootlegs, and design roll outs.

another mind reading session mike4lsu? or did this come to you in a dream? if you follow LSU football and have since miles has come here, it is difficult for me to even imagine this conclusion. it is even exceedingly more difficult to imagine someone with cognitive ability to arrive at such a conclusion. miles is a competitor and noone wants to be at the top of the SEC more so than him. and that is based on information over a number of years by a number of different people that actually know les miles. no dreams atall.

if our D continues to force turnovers and we can run the football, we will be an 11 win team.
