AT&T Uverse

Who has it and what are the advantages? Is it good service?
I've been on Comcast in Houma for 5 years and it has sucked badly. Crappy equipment, poor HD and sound. Several times while watching TV on an HD channel, the picture will pixilate, then a message will appear "this channel will be available shortly. Some boxes can order on-demand programming, others can't. Many times, I'll change to station and there will be no sound and I'll have to flip around channels to get sound, then voila, sound is on the channel I want. I could go on...
After the latest error message, I ordered up AT&T Uverse. I am hoping to have less trouble. Hoping some of you have this service and can give me the skinny. When they are selling it, they make it sound great (big surprise). I have 7 tv's and all bu 3 have custom installs, universal remotes, etc. Hope it works they way they sold it, because it is a huge financial savings (like $100/month cheaper!)

You get a lot of perks, but one con I hear is that the HD isn't as good.
On a related note, if you get a 300 package or better, it comes with free streaming of your entire service to your iPhone

I have had it for a year in Houston. The service works fine for me, and if I have ran into a issue AT&T has had good service. We have only had one problem where they had to come out and replace the main DVR box. They took like 30 dollars off my bill because we could not record anything for a day and a half.
One thing I have seen people mention is that you can only record 2 HD programs at a time not 4.
Also the AT&T guy will setup everything as far as peripherals go (universal remotes). Or at least that is what they did when setting up ours.

this, as with the quality of the internet/HD mainly depends on how far you are from the "node"
the closer you are the better your services are, but as the distance increases, the quality declines
at certain distances, you can only get one HD feed at a time, I've heard
this is normally the source of the biggest gripes against Uverse
i would be willing to give it a shot if and when it comes to denham, but for now, I'm satisfied with cox

i have it and i love it. And it's mainly the smaller thing i love. The picture quality is ok, i don't really see a noticeable difference. I do still get the pixelating and it's worse than it was on Cox. I went to my mom's house during the weekend and Eatel was even worse than both, so i can't complain to much.
The multi view channels are awesome though, along with the favorites list that will pull up roughly 50 channels at once. from me

My experience is pretty much in line with what's already been said, but I will add that our internet had some DNS issues (pages not loading on the 1st try) which I was able to find a solution too online, and that the On-demand options SUCK.

Not true. With the uverse app it'll let you download predesignated shows off your DVR. They choose which shows you can download.

other than that it's fine

This is true. My brother has it, and he can not watch, and record 2 HD channels. He either has to watch one in HD, and record the other in SD.

Where are you guys? I have it in BR and I can have 2 HD feeds coming in at once. So you can record the 2 HD and watch a standard feed or record 1 HD and watch the other, etc.

I can record 2 HD AND 2 standard @ same time off of Millerville. It depends on the signal strength.

I'm in Houma and it is far superior to Comcast. Same complaint. Only 2 HD channels. Plus you pay $7 per box per tv and you have to have a box to watch anything. Not like cable where you can plug into the wall and watch basic channels.

Depending on the market, Comcast subscribers will have to have a box on every tv anyways, so you might as well have u-verse.

Verizon Fios is FTTH (Fiber to the Home)
ATT U-Verse is FTTN (Fiber to the Node) and uses existing copper wiring from the node to the house.
I'm still waiting on Uverse to reach my house just for the internet. Cox is too inconsistent. It's about 5 blocks away but still not available at my address.
