As to this thread...Ron Franklin and it is not even close.

He's always been one of the very best, IMHO....

1. Gary Danielson
2. Todd Blackledge
Beyond those 2, it's mostly garbage.

I know who my least favotites are, Verne Lundquist and Brent Mussberger. Both of those dinosaurs should have been put out to pasture many, many years ago. They are an embarrasment to their respective networks. There have to be many younger, more articulate and knowledgable broadcasters out there.

No, he was channeling Baton Rouge

Well I can say I can't stand Holtz (Notre Dame will win the Nat'l title on every pre-game show and the guys around act as if he hasn't said that every year) or Herbstreit. But I do like Danielson and Fowler is the only one on College Gameday who isn't senile or Herbstreit.

I could listen to Ron Franklin call a curling match, and I would be riveted.
He's in my trinity of the greatest play-by-play guys of all-time with Dick Enberg & Vin Scully.
Too bad, Ron's relegated mostly to the Big 12 Conference now.

Spielman is another favorite. I had the privilege of seeing Chris Spielman play against LSU in Tiger Stadium back in 1987- a 13-13 tie. That was a helluva game. CS was the ultimate warrior on the football field, but a really good guy off- still is.
I remember some of his heartfelt comments after the funeral for the great Eric Andolsek, his adversary for the LSU-OSU- but his teammate at Detroit. He said (and I can't remember all the words) "When Eric died, a part of me died, as well...."
I was very saddened to hear his wife lost her battle with cancer, late last year. He gave up his NFL career years ago to take care of her.
I just like this post
I remember watching the game he did after his wife passed. That had to be so tough.
I really hope ESPN puts him on some LSU games this year. Last year he and Bob Griese along with PBP guy Sean McDonough did almost all of the Wisconsin games. Which is a good consolation for me. Wisconsin is my favorite team to watch besides LSU.
For my fellow football junkies, if you haven't taken notice of Chris Borland 5-11, 242, LB for Wisconsin, dude is fun to watch. True freshman in '09. Not highly recruited at all, in fact, he initiated his recruitment with Wisconsin. Check out his stat line from last year: 54 tackles, 10.5 tfl, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 int, 1 blocked kick, 6 kick returns for 106 yards, & 3-3 on PAT kicks. He is a hitter. He had some devastating blocks on KRs as well. They also have little Jay Valai back there blowin people up. Check him out blasting a Fresno St. offensive lineman.
