I guess Saban let ESPN hang out for a week and invade his space just for the hell of it.

It means that apparently Saban thinks ESPN coverage is relevant. Like I said, you think he allowed them in just for the hell of it, or do you think he believes it is a tool to promote the program and that 16-18 boys watch a lot of ESPN?

actually, you're not. when miles called out little herbie and espn he hurt some feelings up in Conn. so be it...Miles told the truth, espn did not. nobody likes getting caught in a lie. frankly, until LSU proves they can run their offense and until the staff proves they have a handle on game day decisions, we probably need to be less hyped. as far as respect is concerned, the staff and players need to do it the old fashioned way...they need to earn it.

Like I said...READ MY POST

It wasn't about the positive or negative effects of ESPN coverage on recruiting. It was about whether or not coaches or teams look at LSU as an automatic W on their schedule because of negative press.

Rankings and pre-season hype from the media don't mean shite when it's Gametime. Ask Nick Saban if he is looking at LSU as a automatic W this year.

Flying under the radar, just the way we like it.

I agree, I prefer to fly below radar. On the other hand, another reason to not show up on radar is due to simple lack of relevance.

I was watching Saban practice his team.

They showed him talking about LSU. He said LSU says they are going to beat you. Get ready.

You're right, I misread your post.

Now that I read it, I have to ask you if you understood that I never said coaches were watching and getting their information from ESPN analysts. I do realize that coaches probably think LSU is a good team, despite what ESPN says. HOWEVER, my point was that ESPN can influence our future recruits negatively or make LSU seem irrelevant. ESPN coverage, or lack thereof, can help form the opinions of the weak minded and cause greater negative fan reaction to a program, despite reality.

I think it all has more to do with the fact that the media was fairly kind (as they should have been) to LSU with preseason picks in '08, then in '09, we received the benefit of the doubt and were ranked highly again. In both cases, we did not live up to the billing, so why would they pay attention to The Tigers now?

I for one don't give a rat's arse what ESPN says, and hope that the whole thing can be used as a motivational tool with the players.

I certainly don't believe that the team thinks they deserve ANYTHING just because they show up on the field in LSU helmets this year (and I do think it's been that way in the past, even with Lord Saban at the helm in '04.)

This team will have to earn every single thing. That's a great way to start the season, in my opinion.

I can't wait to MAKE ESPN talk about us. CANNOT WAIT.

Last night I saw the Recruiting insider on ESPNU and they broke down EVERYONE in the Top 5s recruiting class BUT LSUs. Didn't even mention LSU once.

Spoke a lot about the SEC. LSU was not even mentioned(not even in a bad way). It's one thing to get negative press, but it's quite another to be totally ignored. The only time they were mentioned was when they were breaking down Bama's schedule where they picked Bama to beat LSU. I dont know about you but this really gets me going. Hopefully, and much more importantly, fuel like this can get the Tigers going!!

Right now, the majority of the national media perceives LSU as a mediocre, waning program helmed by a stuttering moron. Hence, we have been relegated to being an afterthought. That is simply the truth regarding the current media perspective on the program.

I will say this, though. I really do believe the talent level on this team is being underestimated. We are not less talented than Auburn, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.
