Lab Kennels around Baton Rouge

Bart Posey of Wonderlabs is a fine guy and you won't go wrong with any of his dogs. Chuck McCall is just outside of Baton Rouge and is a very top notch trainer. The same would go for Ron Anderson.

However I would encourage you to broaden your horizons on dogs. Whichever dog you get will be with you for hopefully 12-15 years. I would do research and pick the dog right for you. It is no problem to have one flown in from across the country. The dogs do fine and it's done all the time. I hope that helps you some, I don't have any dogs on the ground I have my hands full with what I am training/testing with now.

Bart Posey is a great trainer and has done very good with my last two dogs. I looked on his website but looks like he only has black labs now. Was looking for a yellow lab for no other reason but looks. The last dog I got from him was a machine. He never wanted to stop retrieving. Even the day I put him down (had bone cancer) he still wanted to retrieve that day. Below is a pic. I'm in no hurry so I will check around.

Bart is still running some nice yellow labs, not sure about any breedings. If I remember correctly his website isn't always up to date. I would probably call him over trusting just on his website.

I guide waterfowl hunts near Houston and could recommend a great trainer and seperate breeder both in the Houston area.

Mostly just to hunt. My last one did some hunt tests and had some medals but it was done with the trainer and I didn't participate in it. It seems like it would be a lot of time to do it but I may consider it.

I have a female off of one of there litters. My lab is a beautiful white color however she is very short. She only ways 55lbs.

She is a decent retrevier but not what I hoped...which Maybe partially my fault. anyway she is a great family companion.

Just checked them out. YEs they are. They have some male puppies at $1,200 each. Quite pricey but still going to check them out tommorrow.

It has a good bit to do with the pedigree, but even more with the upbringing and the training.

I know they have some good trainers in Louisiana because I see a lot of them at the hunt tests out here around Houston. However, I will say that some of the top trainers in the country are within 1.5-2 hrs of Houston.

You can find a suitable dog, but training is going to cost you at least $2400 for 4 months. It's somewhat late to get a dog now and think it will be ready for this season, unless its started.

I got my last dog from wonderlabs kennel in picayune, MS and I think he cost around $650 and had a very good bloodline (field trial and hunt test champions on both sides). But that was also 11years ago. He passed some hunt tests with the trainer, but I wasn't there at the trials but he could run blinds, knew hand signals, etc. I think It cost me $500-$600 a month for the training. He had a total of 7 months of training. I'm not looking into getting a dog for this season. It would be for next season.

What type of Labrador are you looking for?
English- Dickendall, Mardas? American?
