ESPN's polls are always interesting. The state by state "mouse over for more specific results" maps are fascinating.

In the left hand column of the link below there are also specialty polls, among them this week some questions about how Boise State would fare in the SEC.

I have to give credit to the state of Idaho. They actually admit 2 losses if in the SEC, meaning in all likelihood no championship game. I think Boise St. is for real. They've won both BCS games they've been in the last few years. I also think they might surprise a lot of people if they joined the SEC. Depth and size would hinder them for a while. But if they could get the recruits for a few years, the coaching and desire to compete are apparently there.

i am not getting the state by state thing to show up.

either way. kinda shows how stupid people are when the majority say they would go 4-4 in the sec yet the majority say if they go undefeated they should play for the national title no questions asked.

and SEC fans have a more inflated ego.

eta: nevermind. i see the map thing.

They would absolutely have to prove it to me playing week in and week out. The last time there was a Boise St. types team, it was Arizon St. Right before they joined the Pac 10. In the 8 years before they joined the pac 10, they posted records of 11-0, 11-1, 10-2, 11-1, and 12-0. Thats two undefeated seasons, two one loss seasons, and a two loss season in the 8 years prior to them joining the conference. In the thirty years they have been in the Pac 10, they have 4 ten win seasons and have won the conference a grand total of 2 times. Boise St. would be Arkansas at best in the SEC.

Let's say a lot of high school kids have been impressed with witnessing Boise fighting off the big boys in big games to get where they are the last few years. Boise joins the strongest conference in America. A lot of the impressed kids want to jump on this train. Boise becomes a top 15 or top 20 type recruiting school. Still no?

No just no, but HEEEELLLLL NO! Look at Arizona St. They had the perfect opportunity to do this and couldn't, despite two undefeated seasons in five years. Kids still want to play for the name schools (and what kid whose worth a damn is gonna want to spend his fricking college years in Boise Idaho?)

not a fricking chance. who wants to move to boise? seriously? lets see, shitty city, shitty weather, ugly girls. oh, the recruits will be lining up.

why do you think the big 10 has been shite lately? back in the day that was how you got on tv. now, everyone is on tv. and people want to go where the weather is nice and the girls are hot.

But what happens to Boise St. when their current coach gets hired by a big time program?

Like Meyer having a brain hemorrhage, or when Saban goes to coach the Cowboys.

Everyone asked that when Dan Hawkins left to resurrect CU. Look how that turned out, Boise would beat CU 9 out of 10.

It is one thing to play one or two good teams all year and beat them because you have saved all your special plays for them, and a whole different scenario to play in the SEC for the entire year. I doubt Boise St. would ever win the SEC if they were here all year long getting beat up week to week against our stout defenses.

Hey I like Boise St for what they are but in the SEC I doubt they would even become an Arky. I am thinking more along the lines of possibly a Kentucky football wise anyways.

note that Ohio votes like SEC states
4-4 or worse vs SEC, for Boise.

Also note that LSU, Georgia, S.Carolina, & UK were not on the list. I would say they definitely lose to LSU and Georgia and S.Carolina could give them a run for their money.

I'd give them 3-5 to 5-3 for this season only.

Boise is able to bring in the top tier of mid-level talent, and that would drop off if they weren't consistently beating big name teams. The second an Alabama, Florida, or LSU drove them into that blue turf, kids would stop wanting to play there.
