Exactly. The character of Han Solo was originally written as a 60 year old nearsighted jewish deli owner, but when Harrison Ford blew them away it put a whole new paint job on the role.
Actually Han Solo was going to be a weird arse alien, but the executives, who for once knew what they were talking about over the director, made them cast Han as a human.

Here's a nice letter from Jorge Garcia (Hurley) about his experience on LOST. Its a very good read:

The one thing I find great is how good of a relationship every member of the cast had with one another. In almost every TV show, there are at least a few members of the cast who can't stand each other, but the only person who has come through LOST that the cast didn't get along with was Adawale (Mr. Eko).

So this is an old question, but...what really brought the Losties to the Island? Jacob "brought them", but is it still related to not pressing the numbers? It was still a choice for Desmond to leave the Hatch and miss pressing the numbers. What if he hadn't left? And Jacob has "brought" dozens of people to the Island without the Hatch.
So what was the real purpose of the numbers and punching them in? What would have happened if Desmond/Locke didn't punch the numbers AND desmond didn't turn the key? Would the world have ended?

Jacob can see the future, so he knew Desmond would leave the Hatch.

Yes it would have ended, but the producers have said that there is a major bad side effect to using the fail safe. Since electromagnetism is going to be featured prominently in the finale, I think we will probably find out in the finale what this side effect is.

Do we know this? If so, it makes things a bit of a catch 22. I mean he gives the losties a "choice" but he always knows what choice they will make? So Jacob already knows everything will work out on the Island because he knew jack would accept the role and everything else that will happen?

I will say the hatch was interesting microcosm for the overall Island situation. Jacob is basically pushing numbers without question because he is told "bad things will happen" and is looking for his replacement to continue the eternal pattern.

This is hilarious. ESPN explained LOST to sports fans as if the show were instead about the 2007 New England Patriots. It will take you at least 2 times looking through to get everything it is referencing in the show:

We just make up anything to fill in the holes left open by the writers.

An ABC source confirms to me that after Sunday’s series finale, titled “The End,” airs from 9 – 11:30 pm ET/PT, the season six DVD (as well as the complete series collection, out on DVD and Blu-ray August 24) will continue the saga with upwards of twenty minutes of additional storyline.
“It’s in production now,” confirms the source, who couldn’t yet confirm the actual running time of the new scenes. “Damon and Carlton wanted to offer fans answers to additional questions they couldn’t get to in the body of the final show.”
Nice. Good idea. I'm sure there will still be room for plenty of conjecture though.

OK, Stu, I will make a weekly honorary LOST thread proposing aliens as the probable source of all LOST mysteries. This will give you something to ridicule as you work through LOST withdrawals.

sunday night should be fun. i'll be at a massive watch party and hopefully some people will be sporting their dharma jumpsuits. i expect to be happy with the ending of the show, though i will be sad it's over. the best part of watching lost is discussing it with your friends for hours upon hours, and i just don't think another show on tv will ever do that for me.

Humorous but pretty clever really.

Jorge Garcia is obviously as down to earth as his character, Hurley. I look forward to seeing him in a future endeavor but he's right: "I just know this job is going to be a hard one to follow."

Aliens from the planet Wallace that go out in true alien fashion with a fission reactor strapped to their chest.

I wonder how many pages this will be by the end of the show

It was probably a little early to start this thread but we do have a replay of the Pilot Episode tomorrow (Sat.) at 8 P.M. ET. I guess it will be an enhanced episode so I will watch it on our big screen tv; I usually watch the replays on Hulu on a 22" monitor.
