Why are we hearing nothing from the Governors of Flordia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas on a united front threatening the Oil Companies responsible for the Oil Slick to get it cleaned up now before it hits the coast before it is too late??? If they threatened a huge law suit I bet more could be done to keep it from damaging the coast line which damages the seafood business, travel business and so much more. There should be an all out effort to get this cleaned up. But all I see is the normal hand ringing trying to figure out what to do. For God's sake it's 2010 and there still is no urgency to contain oil slick problems. I guess the Governors receive a lot of money from the Oil companies and don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

I've been wondering the same thing. Can't say that haven't been doing anything but I'm not seeing any leadership.

You really think the oil companies involved don't understand and aren't taking into account the perceived threats of those already?

Have you been living under a rock?

BP is busting it to contain the oil slick and shut off the line that's leaking the oil, even developing a new robot to handle the shut off.

It's been the lead story on almost every news outlet.

WTF is the REAL purpose of your thread?

Lawsuits have already been filed by the family members of those who died.

Do you honestly believe that BP is happy this happened, and wants to do nothing? Thats stupid. They are spending 2 million dollars a day trying to find ways to deal with this. The problem is, is there is no quick solution, if there was, they would have implemented it by now. It sucks what happened, but reality is that it will take time to clean up. This is going to be extremely costly to BP, and don't think for one minute they aren't trying to get this done as quickly as possible to reduce that cost.
Oil companies are not evil.

The Federal government through the Coast Guard runs these types of operations. If BP isn't doing enough the CG can contract for additional services and bill BP.

The authorities know what to do in spite of your ignorance or desire to bitch.

Also, it may be 3 months till the leak is sealed. One of the plans is to drill into the ocean floor 18000 feet, then drill horizontally to the busted well and seal it off, which is, i believe 1 to 2 miles away. It's never been done before, but this has never happened before. And they are sure they can do it. Read a newspaper, listen to the news, it's been on the radio for awhile now.
Or lemme guess, the Republicans caused this so they could get oil profits, just like bush blew up the levees, right?

Yeah, and what they are doing is working??? They are doing the same lame things they always do and marine life suffers and has devastating results on local economies. If you have a Billion Dollar Industry you need to put whatever money into containing an Oil Spill. To say they are busing their Butt is hilarious. You can bust you Butt at failing which is what they are doing. Oil Spills are solvable. They just don't invest the NECESSARY DOLLARS to solve the problem.

The lawyer said the only reason they filed so quickly, is so the evidence could be fresh.

I don't think BP was trying to cover anything up, and is not motivated by a lawsuit to clean up the spill. THey are motivated by expense of the cleanup. Quicker it's done, lower the cost.

Your full of shite. Since you have all the answers. What is the solution?

They are doing what they can. But i want you to show me the solution to containing a leak 18000 feet underground, that is quick.

Oh yea...especially since they don't have insurance.

The loss of money and PR is what they are trying to avoid.

And it's not a simple oil spill. It's a leak from the continental shelf. This isn't some tanker that flipped over, this is a steady flow of oil coming from the shelf. They have to drill down and plug the hole. The problem is, is the leak is at -18,000 feet. Despite what al gore tells you, it's not 1 million degrees down there, so the oil doesn't dry up. They have to pump special chemical that harden instantly. If you had a clue about any of this, you would understand.

That is correct. They are losing money by the cost of cleanup and it is bad PR. Is this any less motivation to get it done quicker?
