Mainieri said somebody was going to the pen once AR was healthy. I would imagine they'll let him go at least 5 next weekend, which leaves two games left for Matulis, Bourgeois or Ross.

My gut says Bourgeois despite this weekend's outcomes.

hmm it's a hard choice as a fan but probably an easy one for Mainieri. Bourgeois.

ross would be better suited in the pen he is good for 3 to 4 inning he could relieve the started in the 5th or 6th hold the opponent scoreless till the 8th then let matty ott finish the game off in the 9th

With the way the game worked out today, one would think it will be Ross who is the odd man out. However, Ross is a junior and I think Mainieri is going to give him a shot on Sunday.

Exactly why I think Mainieri chooses Joey

Ross might actually benefit from long relief this year.

I'm going to say Ross stays a starter for now

however, one more bad outing and I think he's done. I know PM is getting frustrated with Ross, and he has every righ to be. The guy is a junior and easily the most experienced pitcher on the staff, these 4-5 inning mediocre outings is not going to cut it

JB is throwing it in the low 90's. I doubt that he is going anywhere. But he is only good for 4-5 innings max, so let Ross come in behind him, and its a damn strong combo.

Ross wasn't great last year either until the end of the season. If he can be a decent Sunday guy I'm fine with him staying.

I think Ross will eventually be in the bullpen. Joey's batting average against him is in the .230's. The problem is what we also saw today..Joey had 19 walks and 22 K's going into the game and walked at least 4 today. If he can get that under control, it will be one thing. You can have someone come out of the bullpen and throw balls 3/4 time. Ross can give us 3 good innings. Let him follow hard throwing Anthony or Joey or even both if needed. Joey can give us 4-6 innings depending on his walks and pitch count. If Anthony and Joey both give us 6, Ross or Rittner can give us 2 innings and give way to Bert. and Ott.

false, ross was much better at the beginning of the season and got worse as the season progressed and we started playing better teams

Well, then.....that only leaves Chandler as the last possible alternative.....

I really wish he would move Ross to the pen, but then again Manieri knows way more than me.

I get into baseball slowly every season so forgive me if I'm off base, but is the general thinking that Matulis is going to take a weekend spot or no? I liked what I saw from him against UGA.

I think he's earned it.

Friday - Renaudo
Saturday - Ross
Sunday - Matulis
mid-week - Bourgeois/Reed

for now. We must develop a solid 3rd starter for the post-season, and Ross/Matulis have the postseason experience. Bourgeois will get there, just not yet
