Devery Henderson and Randall Gay

They are the most accomplished pure Louisiana athletes in history by contributing to championships for their home state's teams at both the college and professional levels. These guys basically lived the dream of every kid growing up in this state: national championship at LSU and Saints' Super Bowl. That's absolutly incredible.
Both grew up here, played at Louisiana High Schools, won LSU's first title in almost 50 years, and won New Orlean's only major professional championship. I wish Tracy Porter was a Tiger.

It's rare these days and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thrown some negativity around lately too.
Seriously, I don't have the number and am not going to look it up (at least not today) but I can't imagine there are many players to win a national championship for their home state's university and pro team, especially in modern times.
Maybe some players on the 02 Bucs, or 98 or 99 Broncos, or someone like Ronnie Lott at USC won both. Maybe the 70's Steeler teams had some PSU guys. But states like FL, TX, and CA have so many schools and pro teams it's not quite the same.

quote:Hate to call a career backup (LSU and NFL) the most accomplished Louisiana athlete ever. Henderson was big at LSU and has contributed a good bit for the Saints. Chad Jones belongs in this discussion as a contributor in two Louisiana Championships.

How about he has been a career backup on two superbowl teams. It says a lot about his character that he would rather play a nickle, which is very important, on a winning team, then start on a lesser team. I love this thread though, the homegrown players always represent us better

All I'm saying is it's effin amazing to win a college national championship and a professional championship for your home state teams. Of course there are better athletes out there but that's a hell of an accomplishment -- basically every kid's dream growing up in this state to bring home the hardware for the Tigers and Saints.

No doubt that what he did (and Jared Mitchell) was amazing.

I've been a Devery Henderson fan since that Kentucky game.

Only if the Super Bowl was being held in New Orleans this season, they would have a chance to win both championships in Louisiana as well.

Good point. That would be beyond ridiculous! Possible though.

ummm, Kevin Faulk? No college NC but had great college career at LSU and a few Superbowl rings have to account for something

you're missing the point. kevin faulk doesn't play for the saints, thus he doesn't play for his home state nfl team, so he doesn't even belong in this conversation. back to the rest of this thread, did randall gay and/or devery henderson win a state football championship as well? if so, that's just even more amazing
