Looks like any new Superman movie is on ice indefinitely

I didn't care for the last Superman movie so this is good news to me. Maybe a new company getting their hands on the franchise may do some good (ala Batman Begins/TDK and the latest Star Trek movie).

Superman Returns was decent, but not a great movie IMO. I didn't mind keeping the movie in the Donner Superman universe, but they seriously needed a new villain. Lex should have, at best, been a supporting character instead of the lead villain.

yep that's the problem with the franchise, Lex has been overused. They need to branch out and do like Spiderman and give you at least 2 villians in the movie.

I knew he would be in SR, but I was hoping he would be the secondary villain. I kept myself spoiler free before seeing the movie. The visuals/effects were great, Routh was fine as SM, and Spacey was a good choice for Lex, but the story was seriously lacking without a new villain. But, on the brightside, at least it wasn't Nuclear Man or Richard Pryor.

Time for reboot w/ James Cameron (or someone of close skill) at helm:
1st movie---Supe's origins (done in a timely manner), Braniac as primary villain and Lex as close 2nd secondary.
2nd--Lex as primary with him contracting cancer due to kryptonite, and him going crazy ("battle of Metropolis---Lexcorp vs. the city). Lex dies at end.
3rd--Supe vs. Doomsday. Supe's death at end
4th---Intro of Supermen w/ Steele and Superboy as the good guys and Eradicator/Cyborg being the villains (the former is more secondary). Supe's rebirth/return towards the end.
5th--Trial of Superman
6th---close adaptation of "All-Star Superman"
Be cool to have Grant Morrison in some capacity on project.

I've always been a fan of the Alan Moore Superman comic "For the Man Who Has Eveything." Wouldn;t mind seeing a film adaptation of that...thought it would mean a all star line up including Batman and Wonder Woman. They did a nice version of this for Justice Legue Unlimited and left out Robin...

I always thought this guy was badass. He blew up the Great Wall of China without giving a damn. He would be a good foe with better special effects.

Probably a good move.
The last movie was bad and unfocused. And his kid....yuck.
Superman needs to be firmly planted in his comic book, trying to keep any sort of "realness" to it leaves all of Superman's best villains out of the picture.

of course, there are 8 jillion comic movies either in the can, being edited, or in the works as it is.
Green Hornet, Green Lantern, Thor, Jonah Hex (more obscure), etc.

Keep in mind that DC is haggling with the Siegel and Shuster families to iron out how they're going to share the rights on these things.
Having a Superman blockbuster on the plate could agitate things.
As soon as they come to some terms, I'm guessing that they'll fast track as much Superman media as possible.
DC Comics just demoted their publisher and replaced him with a Warner "synergist" who's main focus is bringing the comics into other media. Superman won't sit on the shelf forever.

There were rumors that they would green light a 2nd Singer movie just to get it something in by the deadline due to the lawsuit.

I'm glad that they won't be rushing out a crap movie to make a few bucks while they're dealing with the creators' families.

True...but his entire story is one that simply wouldn't work in a Chris Nolan "real" universe. An alien from a now destroyed home world who gets his power from our yellow sun? A pared down Batman obviously can...though it too limits the enemies list...but Superman is simply far fetched and bigger than real life. The dude's hidden identity is achieved by placing on glasses...and the world's foremost investigative reporter who he world's with can't figure it out. Chris Nolan just said "WTF?!?"
That being said, I would like to see the franchise take a slightly different take on the character. Not so much darker, but more serious. I realize I've mentioned it once in the thread, but I was always a fan of the way Superman was portrayed in the Justice League animated series. He was clearly the Boy scout, but he was serious...like he constantly understood he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. He didn't walk around grinning at everyone like in Donner's universe...

I agree. When that rumor hit a few weeks ago, it worried me. A rushed project like this in the superhero genre is how you get films like Batman & Robin and Catwoman. Probably two of the worst comic movies ever made.
