So some anonymous scout thinks in 5 years the 6'0 160lb Jurrjens will be an ace and would take him over the 6'7 200lb Mike Pelfrey 10 out of 10 times? really?
well there you have it folks
obviously pelfrey is better bc he is taller and fatter
case closed

A low K rate isn't a problem if you get a lot of ground ball outs, but Jurjens has a GB% in the lower quarter of the league (37%). Its gonna catch up to him and that ERA will climb.

You don't have be overpowering to be dominant.

Warthen has been working with Pelfrey after Rick Peterson did his best to screw him up by constantly tinkering with him. Pelfrey was throwing a plus plus fastball and a plus curve ball in AAA but when he got to the show, Peterson forbade Pelfrey from throwing the curve, changed his mechanics and forced him to throw a slider more which flattened out his fastball.

Sounds like the Mets have a shite front office to allow coaches that screw up prospects.
+1 for Braves fans

yeah dickhead, that is exactly what I said
luck for you I didnt say anything about JJ being a small frame/high effort guy, and pelfrey being a big frame/low effort. Cause you know those small high effort guys just eat innings and last forever while those big low effort guys just flame out after a couple of seasons.
right ron?

did you hear the news? the Mets fired Rick Peterson recently, it was in all the papers

I had Jair last year on my fantasy team and really liked him but i couldn't spend $14 on him at this year's auction

If you read this quickly, it sounds almost like Rondo is implying that Ronnie Mex is fat.

i never said it was a problem. He's a good pitcher with a bright future.
but it becomes a problem when you start throwing the word "elite" and "dominant" around. Which he is not.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but would you call Tom Glavine in his prime an "elite" or "dominant" pitcher?

Maddux & Webb= good strikeout pitchers

exactly and FTR I don't think pelfrey will ever become elite either but he can be a solid #2 who pitches 200 innings and wins 15-18 games every year
Posted on 5/14/09 at 12:55 pm to FredSecunda
Glavine had exceptional control and command of his pitches and that made him an elite level pitcher imho

definitely he was.
I said there were some exceptions.
He was also lefthanded.
How many RH finesse pitchers do you see that are elite?
A lot of people would say Maddux, but Maddux in his prime threw in the low 90's, and struckout a lot of batters.
Jurrjens will never be as good as Glavine was in his prime. He's a career #2 guy. And there is nothing wrong with that. Or i should say he has #2 stuff. Because he could end up being the "ace" of the Braves staff.
