Why do I sometimes type ‘and’ instead of ‘an’?

This is a common typo for me going way back. The letter ‘d’ isn’t near ‘n’ on the keyboard, so when I mistakenly type ‘and’ something else is going on.

Am I typing phonetically? Does this ever happen to any of you?

As someone who was a good and precise writer (and typist) for a long time, getting old has been annoying in this regard. Or at least I assume it's an age-related thing.

Before I'd mistype like everyone else, but I'd always know I'd done it in real time and rarely find errors in proofreading. Not the case anymore.

I didn't realize how much I relied on autocorrect until I got this latest Samsung phone which has the dumbest autocorrect I've ever seen.

I do the an and thing too. I blame it on this typing app, but who knows.

Seriously?

Think about how many times you use each word.

Maybe that is it. But I wonder what is going on with my mind if that is happening. I am clearly thinking and want to use the word ‘an’ but my mind is making me type ‘and’ due to repetition?

I don’t make the same mistake when talking.

They're typing phonically. Common with people who never really read books.

As long as you don't type "loose" instead of "lose", you're okay with me.
