Did anyone else see this movie at the theater when it came out?

I've never encountered anyone else.

I watched it for the first time around 20 years or so after it was released.

Yes, I was 9 years old. My aunt took my cousin and I to see it.

I was held over at UF working.
My gf picked the movie. I hated it. She made me sit through it.

I grew to love it.

Incredibly overrated movie

It’s nostalgic only because of the 24 marathons on Christmas Day on TBS we grew up watching . I’ve seen it several times but never sat down and watched the entire thing in one sitting. Always bits and pieces throughout the day

Yes about four times in one weekend. My parents dropped my sister and I off in the mall theater so they could go shopping for our presents. Unfortunately, the theater at Cortana only had two screens. A Christmas Story and an R rated Tom Cruise movie, maybe All the right moves. So we were stuck watching it over and over until they were done shopping.

No cell phones back then just wait right here until we come to get you!

I don't remember seeing it until I was in college in the mid 90s.

10 yr old me would not have understood the greatness I was watching

No. I was too young for movies at the theater.

It appeared as a short story in Playboy a few years before it was a movie. I read it in my dad's copy in between staring at boobs. When it came out I had to see it.

Fun fact: The author, Jean Shepherd, was a Chicago radio personality and humorist. Somebody has created a youtube channel with his old shows on it LINK
