It used to be only FG kickers had their knees exposed now almost all players do.I thought it was a warning then a flag for an equipment violation.

Hip pads and tail bone pads went away years ago too and those of us who played when they were a thing know they were annoying, but a hit in the hip/tail bone hurt like hell for a long time.

How about the NFL and all the CTE drama but they do not require players to wear mouth pieces.

It's unenforceable now, when coaches and administrators are afraid of pissing off players over fashion.

But I don't really get the trend of guys wanting to cut them off high up on the thing. I'm sure they're all moving much, much faster with that extra inch gone.

If we're being honest, knee pads in football did nothing. Whens the last time a dude got his kneecap broken without massive ligament damage, which the pad obviously doesn't stop.

Supposedly, they originated to prevent head injuries from getting kneed.

Don't think they did much for most knee injuries. Down linemen need something, but they wear those cyborg contraptions now.

They wear carbon fiber hybrid supports.

Knee pads are a relic.

Section 4, Article 3 of the NCAA Football Rules book, knee pads are a mandatory piece of equipment. The rule book also says that those knee pads must be covered by pants. Last time most of us checked, our knees are not located on our thighs.

The NCAA’s position on knee pads has changed from mandatory to recommended. Yet, Section 4, Article 3 of the rulebook remains unchanged

So...I guess you are supposed to sew/integrate some padding but its also supposed to be near your knee. So like cut-off/rolled up jerseys in the late 80s, NCAA is not uniform with their uniforms.

the ncaa is a name, it has no authority. any decision they make against you, you take to court, and they fold.

Leaving my mouthpiece dangling from my facemask like I see from a lot of players would drive me crazy.

speaking of knees, are so many playing with damaged knees that the black knee braces are a necessary protection or do they work as a protection against future damage?

Bryce Underwood for UM does that every play (I’ve never noticed his in his mouth). It drives me crazy just watching. I get it’s on a string, but you can still put that in your facemask.

This is why everyone stopped wearing them. They don’t prevent the more catastrophic knee injuries or really any injuries to the knee so what’s the point? Could say the same for the hip and butt pads too. shite is worthless. A small cushion is going to stop a 6’3 240 pound human running a 4.6 from destroying my knees? Nah. Probably fricking not
