Great “prove it” spot for him. Also a Kentucky native so basically home for him.

Big jump for a guy with 6 years coaching experience

Good hire for Kentucky. They're broke broke. Not sure where they're getting the money to buy out Stoops and pay Stein.

That's a really good hire for Kentucky

Is this a good hire? Oregon's offense has been very meh to me against teams with a pulse. He's only been coaching in P4 as a coordinator for three years and only three more as a Co/OC at UTSA. Just 6 years ago he was coaching high school. Very risky hire as a HC in the SEC if you ask me.

He’s had one of, if not, the most efficient offense in CFB the past 3 years.
This year Oregon replaced virtually everyone. Also, the top 3 pass catchers were injured in November.
He just produces.

Because he has better players than every team he plays against. Let's see him produce when Kentucky has the 14th-16th best roster in the SEC. Being a HC in the SEC is hard, especially for someone who has never been a HC. This could be a great hire, or it could easily go up in flames.

That is a good hire if it gets done for Kentucky. IMO

He did it at UTSA too. They had a rash of injuries to the OL and adapted the scheme to it. The guy knows X’s and O’s and he develops.

This is a good chance to take.

May not work out but I like this hire.

We'll see. Joe Moorhead had all these great stats as an OC at Penn State with Saquan Barkley, and he sucked as a HC at Mississippi State. Went 8-5 with the number 1 defense in the nation that produced three first round picks. Hiring coordinators for their first HC job in the SEC is a big risk.

It’s Kentucky. You either get a high floor, low ceiling coach or get one that has a high ceiling.
Lanning really wants to develop his coaching tree and he runs the program like an SEC one. Stein had 3 years as an OC where the coach is a defensive one.
