I know Magnalite are hard to come by. I was looking at a 13" mcWare or a 9 Quart Enamel Coated Cast Iron Dutch Oven by Cajun Classic. Does anyone have experience with either or any other recommendations?

I've never heard of Cajun Classic brand, but I love my Lodge 8qt enameled dutch oven that I've had for over a decade. Lodge is one of the best bang for your buck when it comes to cast iron, and they are American made, so I'd go with that.

They make good stuff that last.

Go with a 9qt enameled for versatility, and any brand really I haven't come across a bad one yet. Even the cheap ones are usually good.

Their regular cast iron is, but their enameled isn't- I believe it's made in Vietnam now.

Enameled cast iron Dutch oven is what you seek, if I had to choose only one pot to cook with for everything for the rest of my life it’d be that. Get as a high of quality of one as your budget allows. The cheaper ones work great but the enamel can eventually wear off especially if you manage to chip it.

I bought a 7qt. Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, by Martha Stewart. Ordered online, shipped and delivered in 2 days. Been a good pot.

I agree. I was gifted a couple Le Creuset dutch ovens many years ago, and they are my two most used cooking dishes. One of them is on my stove more nights than they're not.

We rotate between a 25 year old Le Creuset Dutch oven (outlet store buy) and 2 vintage cast iron Dutch ovens. I’d try to find a crusty one at an antique shop and just refinish it.

Nope, I have 3 cast iron pots that I don't use. I get a much better fond with my Magna lite or stainless pot.

It’s best not to use enamel for a roux. Regular cast iron or magnalite will work better for a roux and browning.

Lodge makes a 7 quart oval enameled dutch oven as well that is on sale right now. The oval shape fits large roasts nicely.

There's nothing wrong with the McWare pots. I have the 15" (Magnatite) which is 11qts and 18" (McWare) with is 18qts
The 13" oval roaster is 7 qt. and will be a single burner pot. 7qts of gumbo, beans, or spaghetti will feed easily feed 15-20 average people, and not be a massive pain in the arse to clean in the sink.
You can do the same thing with an enameled cast iron dutch oven, but I'd bet the Magnalite/McWare will last you longer.
