This Reminds me of Saban coming to LSU from MSU

Though there are important differences in that you can argue Kiffen was more accomplished than Saban. But the airplane rides and the "you better get on this plane to Baton Rouge" if you want a job.
If you recall none of Nick's coaches left with him and they were offered the same airplane ride. Nick though offered MSU a chance to match the offer and reports are that he would have stayed at MSU if they would have matched the offer. I doubt Kiffen though will stay at Ole Miss regardless of matching.

I don’t think we were this excited for Saban. And he wasn’t the big name. Kiffin is the one big name out there. And we got him. I’ll eat all the crow from doubting the past few days. I’m in shock we pulled this off

It wasn’t the Information age so many at the time weren’t incredibly familiar with Nick despite him being so well respected and already had NFL overtures

Most were cautiously optimistic about Saban. Watching his first presser I was thinking “Hmm. This guy seems to have his act together.”

Kiffin is gone man. Ole Miss already matched the offer. He's done too much damage in Oxford to go back there at this point.

I remember reading an article by Bill Curry of all people going after Saban for being disloyal by coming to LSU. It was an absolute crock of shite article.

Remember Saban wasn’t able to bring staff or players with him and it turned out just fine. If Lane doesn’t bring anyone don’t be overly disappointed. He will be fine.
