I love the Springfield XD (original, and Mod2) I've had in .45ACP for a long time. They seem to have consolidated down to 9mm for non 1911s. I find .45ACP easily controllable even with a 3.3" barrel in the subcompact Mod.2. I can conceal carry the subcompact or the 4" XD easily, but Glock apparently has the Gen4 in the proper caliber. Is the Glock 21 Gen 4 comparable? The XD fits my hand *just right*.

Not sure how you put this in the Home & Garden section but to be fair my Glock 21 is about the size of a brick you would find in one's garden

I don’t have experience with the Springfield, but I own a Glock 41 and Glock 20. Both have the same grip as that Glock 21—very chunky. I have long hands so I shoot them well but I could see how the grips would be too fat for some people.

You won't find that with any factory Glock. My first handgun was a early 2000's SA XD40, a Glock will feel noticeably different and point differently too. Of course the difference is just as stark going from the SA to a Walther or a H&K, you just have to get used to it.

The chunky Glock grips must be tough for anyone who doesn’t have long fingers

I carry a Glock 26, never had an issue with its grip and I certainly don't have long fingers.

That's disappointing. Are Talon or Hogue the standard grip replacements for most owners? Do the replacements improve trigger reach?

My long time carry gun is a G-27, but my G-21 is very different. Bulky even in my X large hands.
I suggest that you handle one before buying.
Very few people can get a proper grip on these.

I'm a long time Glock fan and it's been my EDC for a few decades now. I recently bought a full size and compact XDM Elite in 10mm and really, really love it ... enough that I'm strongly considering switching over for EDC. I made my peace with the Glock grip, especially the Gen5 with the modular backstrap but the XDM just feels that much better. While all my Glocks are accurate enough for my use, the XDM is pretty impressive out of the box for how accurate it is and follow ups with full power 10mm are easy, easier than I expected in fact.

I know that doesn't help you for .45ACP so TIFWIW. Maybe see if you can handle a Gen5 with different backstraps to see how you like it. I don't have the model 21 but I do have a model 36 (single stack 45) and a model 30SF (dbl stack 45) both of which I like. I believe Glock has the 30 in Gen5 but not the SF version but it may be slimmer grip than the original 30 with the modular backstrap.

To me, the importance of this cannot be overstated provided everything else checks in like reliability, accuracy, etc. The only thing I have that fits my hand like it was made for it better than the XDM are my CZ's but unfortunately for me they're only available in 9mm.

Since you're so happy with your XDM what's driving you to consider switching to Glock?
