and had a 17 year old son who was a good DB/FB type player, where would you prefer for him to go to high school for his last 2 years?
1.) West Monroe. Very stable program, great chance of winning, experiencing success and being seen by Div. 1-A schools, but not a "guarantee" of a lot of playing time.
2.) West Ouachita. Would undoubtably be a starter from the get go, lots of playing time, would be seen in games against Ruston, Bastrop, etc. but less chance of the atmosphere of predominant program "success", e.g. given expectations of playoff chances...
I'll hang up and listen.

My wife went to WM and her brother went to WO and played football there. He went to WM as a frosh and my other bro-in-law went to WM. So, my opinion would be to look at the school and how he'll fit in more than football. WO is definitely more country, but a decent school. I honestly believe that regardless of the school, if your son has the talent, college coaches will find him. It helps when you have support from the HS coaching staff too, but you can seek out opportunities for your son also....don't just depend on the coaches.
I've been to games at both schools and the atmosphere at WM is head and shoulders above WO...but football isn't everything...well at WM it is.

I would send some tapes to a few colleges and ask a few coaches which route would benefit your son best.

West Ouachita has great facilites and a tremendous coaching staff just not enough athletes. They run the fullback dive on almost every play so he would certainly get the carries. They are always around 5 or 6 wins and make the playoffs. Good school.
However nothing like a friday night in rebel stadium if the natives are into it.
I have been lucky enough to see alot of both schools during the past few seasons.
Both good in their own ways.

How about St. Fredericks, all they run is the veer. Their fullback last year had over 1500 yards rushing. He left this year so they don't have a fullback and he will start the day he gets there.

Go to Oak Grove.
He'll start if he's good. He'll get the best coaching anywhere in the state. He'll have a very good chance to compete for a state championship. And, oh yeah, West Carroll Parish schools consistently rank in the upper echelon of academic perfomance in the state.
What else did you expect me to say?

Can't go wrong with either WM or WO.
Both are solid schools, you know about WM. Coach Thomas and the boys over at WO will coach hard.

I would send him to WM...stellar facilities, much more exposure (all games are tape delayed on Tuesday nights), excellent coaching staff...
and to top it all off, the school is very good academically....

I was 17 when I graduated.
Is this the norm now 19 year old seniors?
