Neal McCready:

"I’m almost reluctant to post this but I’ve got info from a couple of sources that confirms something I’d started hearing over the weekend.
All of the focus around here has been on the threat Florida poses as the Gators target Lane Kiffin. The Ole Miss coach is also, per two sources, the primary target at LSU. I was told earlier today to watch LSU chase three targets in the coming weeks — Kiffin, Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz and Louisville coach Jeff Brohm. I was subsequently told LSU has Kiffin atop that list and is prepared to offer him a deal that would make him the highest paid coach in college football.
I am told LSU isn’t particularly confident it can pry Kiffin away from Ole Miss, and the timing of the College Football Playoff is a major problem that could interfere with the Tigers’ pursuit.
Obviously, LSU’s situation has gotten weird with the governor’s involvement, the dispute with Brian Kelly and just the overall weirdness in Baton Rouge right now.
A few years ago, Kiffin, per sources, tried to get LSU’s attention, to no avail. That’s obviously changed.
My thoughts: I still think Florida is a much bigger threat, and I still believe the timing of the CFP — among other things — makes Ole Miss the favorite, but Kiffin has, per sources, indicated he wants to evaluate his options before making a decision. When does that happen? During the open date? After the Egg Bowl? I don’t know. I don’t believe it’s realistic for Kiffin to drag out a college choice until after the CFP, if Ole Miss qualifies."

If we got him, boy, talk about throwing gasoline on that rivalry.

I think saying “LSU and UF are going hard after Kiffin” is about as low hanging fruit as it gets.

No fricking shite they are.

I’m referring to the Ole Miss guy acting like that’s some revelation.

Ole Miss fans should be very worried about Lane getting poached. To keep him they’re going to have to make him the highest paid coach in CFB.

If LSU and Florida get into a bidding war (they are/will be), there's a very remote possibility he stays at Ole Miss, IMO. He can say money doesn't matter all he wants, but when a 15-18M (who knows how far it goes) offer shows up on your desk, things change.

Brohm wouldn’t be a bad pick but do not want Drink

Ole Miss is going to be right there with them.

Yeah, I mean we will see how it goes, I wouldn't be majorly confident if I was Ole Miss, but apparently they are so something's got them confident.

Unless they miss the playoffs they are in the catbird seat.

LSU and Florida cannot realistically wait until January to hire someone.

Ole Miss doesn’t have the stroke to sustain an offer of $15-$18MM for 3 years

How interesting would it be if Kiffin announced he's taking the LSU/Florida job right after the Egg Bowl? Would they even let him coach the playoffs? How fricking crazy would that scenario be lol

No way they let him coach if he does that.

I think Ole Miss has to force his hand at some point, too. They can’t get caught with their pants down either.

My thoughts exactly. I know that Ole Miss has Turnkey (search agency) on retainer if things were to go south. IMO, Kiffin has to let them know in the next 7-14 days, otherwise things get messy.
