Is the Luca Doncic trade the worst in sports history?

The saints given up an entire draft for Ricky Williams is up there.
Minnesota and the Herschel Walker trade was bad.
I don’t think anything touches the Luca trade and I think firing the man who made it 9 months later is proof of that…
What other trades are contenders?

The SGA/PG trade might actually be worse.

There is no doubt it’s the worst NBA trade ever. I can’t think of another that’s even close.

It’s great that he was fired but it doesn’t undue the damage…set the franchise back about 5 yrs

5 years? Try a decade. Mavs don’t have their own 1st round picks from 2027-2030.

Jeff Bagwell trade was pretty awful as was the Expos trading Randy Johnson and the Mets trading Nolan Ryan and 3 other players to the Angels for...Jim Fregosi.

Then they doubled down with a $230M fully guaranteed contract. And the Saints & Atlanta were in a tight bidding war to trade for him until Clev saved both organizations.

Brooklyn still hasn’t recovered from that one.

It was intentionally awful and rigged

Other bad trades were just bad trades

The Babe Ruth thing was just a cheap owner

Bagwell was traded for a set up man named Larry Anderson at the trade deadline. Anderson pitched 22 innings for the Red Sox before departing for SD via Free Agency in the offseason. Bagwell went on to hit .297 with an OPS of .948, 449 HR and 1529 RBI.

It's different from the others you mentioned because it was rigged. They were guaranteed the first pick in the draft, it's the only think that makes it even remotely feasible to make it. They could have had a bidding war unlike any other and had a war chest.

The PG/SGA so far is worse though given that the Clips made it as an all in trade to win a title asap and they ended up giving up the actual star that could have won them a title.

The Mavs trade on paper, if you factor in the #1 pick, isn't as dumb as what the Saints gave up though.
