We may make some noise this year. The team is talented, long, experienced and athletic with some key pieces in place.

PGs can make a team go from being an average team to a good team. LSU has a really good one in Thomas. Natural floor leader with great vision. First PG of the McMahon era that can run his sets. Protects the ball and is going to be near the top of the league in assists.

Sutton could be a double double machine. Great inside out player and relentless energy. Can play with his back to the rim or step out for 3s. Very tough to guard.

Will be interesting to see how they do when the competition steps up but their scrimmage win against a pretty good UCF team at their place has given me some hope.

I’ll reassess when they play a team with a pulse

I'm fairly certain every player for UNO was alive last night.

The team they played last night already has a road win against a Big 12 team.

Thomas Jr is a huge upgrade at PG, a position that has plagued CMM since he arrived at LSU. Not having a PG that brings the ball up the court and then immediately turns it over can only help.

However, the SEC is stacked again this season. It's likely that LSU will be improved over last season, but still stuck in the bottom 1/3 of the conference.

A lot of people will keep farming excuses because of a previous bias towards another coach. To them, he would've won a national championship, so unless we win one, the excuses to not buy in will be ignorant comments like these.

Don't let the name fool you. UNO has a good team this year. They've already gone on the road this year and beaten TCU coached by a top tier coach in Jamie Dixon. LSU beat them by 35.

Couple that with the scrimmage win against UCF at UCF and the tea leaves are shaping up

You've seen this play before, they'll start out 12-0/14-2 and everyone will think it's a good team then once conference play starts they will be exposed. This team is ok, not great.

I have been very pleased with the team so far. Effort has been A+ even in 30 point games. We didn't shoot 80% like game one but still found some good shots and our length at all positions with the effort makes rebounding something LSU can hang their hat on.

I am a little nervous about this team if DJ Thomas gets into foul trouble. Having a freshman backup PG scares me a little bit but overall Reece has been good thru his first two games.

I understand people not jumping hard onto the bandwagon or anything, but I also think the team has given us enough so far to really watch and analyze their play.

To the negatiger idiots. No one is saying this team is great. Stop with the nonsense. Anyone who has followed LSU basketball the last 3 years can see the difference between this team and the others. They play aggressive smart defense. They rebound. They move the ball. And for the first time they have a legitimate solid PG. Mcmahon has been more animated on the sideline and is jumping his players when they relax on defense or give up an easy basket or rebound. They have size and most of the players have a higher bball IQ than just about every other team he has had. No one is saying they will win the SEC but I expect them to be more competitive and win some of those games that they lost last year. We were in just about every game but couldn't finish because we couldn't shoot or had too many TO or got killed on the boards. We had guys who could jump but had no size and got pushed around in the lane. This team is built differently and there is nothing wrong with supporting this team. At least if you are truly an LSU fan.

Aspects of the exhibition game were encouraging, but UCF is not a particularly good team. They are picked to finish at/near the bottom of the Big 12, and their first two games haven't shown anything to suggest that prediction is off base. They struggled to beat Hofstra at home in the opener and were handled pretty easily at home by Vanderbilt 105-93 in a game that wasn't really as close as the score suggests.

That said, last night did produce some encouraging early signs. ALL of MM's teams have struggled in their second game of the season. This one didn't. While the shooting percentages were probably just a bit lower than you'd hope, LSU did attempt 71 FGs and 28 FT. A big reason for that was only 7 TOs. That's a GREAT sign for LSU, who has been horrible with TOs under McMahon.

Thomas is the PG MM needs because his offensive structure doesn't create a lot of great play on its. Thomas MUST be the creator. So far he has been that.

Sutton was likely to be the team's most versatile player. So far he has been that.

The big (early) surprise has been Nwoko's offense. He's not a highly skilled offensive player, but getting in good spots for him to score.

Defense and rebounding are still big questions when the level of competition increases. But last night was an improvement from game 1

November has been "fool's gold" for LSU fans under McMahon, so there is still a LOT to learn about this team. But to the extent you can find positives in two games against significantly outmatched opponents they were present.

Hey Alt, Dom, MK, and all!

I was putting together a post that maybe I'll share later, but I think this team may have it. Y'all know I say "Nov/Dec basketball", etc. lol.

I'm always hopeful every year, but I see something different now. CoachMc in energized.

Who is the second beyond Dedan?

I hope you're not suggesting Reed, he to me kind of have the same consistency issues he's always had. He's not a dominant player consistently, but occasionally has these huge games vs. nobodies. When the lights came on vs. bigger/athletic/physical opponents he was very hit and miss.

Really hate these posts. LSU basketball has been dead for a hot minute. Lets wait and see what happens in Jan.

McMahon is a different guy on the sidelines this year . Both with the players and even the referees. I don’t believe he as gotten a technical in 3 years and in the first two games he seemed close to getting one . It’s nice to see him show some signs of energy this year and I’m optimistic this may be a team that can compete with the middle of the pack of the conference this year

If miller gets comfortable, lookout. He looks so athletic he shouldn’t need the ball. The team is all but 2 brand new, growing pains are likely.
