Woodys failures need to be studied

To completely ruin men’s basketball and football as quickly as he did is astounding.
Before he took over we were winning the SEC and going to sweet sixteens in basketball. And during the 18-19 seasons in football we had 2 top 10 finishes. A fiesta bowl title, an SEC title and a national championship. (yes I know he was here during 19 but that had nothing to do with him).
I hope that guy never steps foot back on campus. He has sucked the life out of the entire state with his woke BS. He was so worried about what some liberal USA Today journalist had to say about us than putting a winning product out there.
Thanks Woody.

History won’t be kind to Woodward imo.
Put LSU and A&M programs in the same spot by offering massive guaranteed contracts to dinosaurs.
Luckily Scott wasn’t here long enough at the time to screw over the 2019 team

I sincerely believe the mismanagement of Will Wade has cost the last two ADs their job
Even with the atrocious, hilariously bad contract he gave to Kelly he would have kept his job if Men's basketball wasn't a laughing stock

I personally look forward to taking KIN 3801 The Abject Failure of Scott Woodward at LSU.

I rather an AD that doesn’t cosplay as a football coach or recruiter

While I didn't agree with the decision and was fearful what has happened (the program tanked) would happen, there was justification for firing Wade at the time. Without the benefit of hindsight, if you look at the 6 new SEC basketball coaches hired during that cycle, McMahon's resume (in terms of W/L) was better than all but Mike White. In fact, he had beaten the coach Florida hired (Golden) in the NCAAT that season.
The problem is, and always has been for Woodward, is the hire looked good "on paper". There wasn't a dive beyond the 1st page in the resume to see if the coaches he hired (particularly basketball) was what LSU needed for this changing era of college sports. Anyone with forethought had to know that what worked in the past wasn't guaranteed to work now. In the end, he hired two guys (Kelly and McMahon) who were (at least intially) reluctant to accept the transient nature of college players today. Both went heavy in the transfer portal out of necessity in their first season, but did not want to accept that was going to be the way things are done going forward. Primarily signing blue chip HS players and "developing" them over the course of 3-4 years isn't the way things are done now.
Ironically, Woodward's best hire (Jay Johnson) was one where he was forced to go beyond the "best on paper" hire. The initial target was Vitello with a truckload of money, followed very closely by Kevin O'Sullivan. Both, for one reason or another, ended up not working out. Johnson was down the list a bit.

When you realize that Woodward came from the political world, it all makes sense. Spend a frick-ton of other people's money without any regard for actually delivering promised outcomes. But hey, we did get a women's gymnastics championship, so that's a nice woke badge for this jackass.

Why do you think he didn't care about the outcome? Also no outcome was ever promised and anyone who thinks that any outcome in sports can be promised is a fool.

Will forever hate Woodward. Dude set LSU back 2 decades within a few years with his terrible assessment in football and basketball hires and contracts.

Scott McKay just posted this on Facebook
Scott Woodward was advised to reassign Brian Kelly within the athletic department rather than fire him, because firing him triggered his buyout and wasted LSU's leverage.
Woodward ignored that advice and fired Kelly, triggering the buyout.
Kelly's lawyers have been giving LSU the "F you, pay me" treatment ever since.
It was a VERY basic negotiating mistake that Woodward made.
And it's begun to come out over the past few days just how dysfunctional things have been in the football offices. Some of that coaching staff were Kelly's people and some of them were Woodward's, and while Kelly was without question checked out, it starts to look like Woodward's meddling in his staff hirings played a factor in that.
The picture all this paints is that Scott Woodward was a cancer on LSU's athletic department. Everything he stuck his hands into, he made worse.
Those of you sad that he's gone need to do some more research.

2019 doesn’t happen if Woodward was here sooner than he got here.
