If tweet fails to load, click here. I wasn’t aware of this issue before, but it sounds like a huge step in the right direction for women’s health. Hormone therapy reduces side effects of menopause and offers long term health benefits with no evidence of increased risk to cancer. The fact that 1 out of every 4 women were on this type of therapy in 1999 and now it’s only 1 in 25 because of unnecessary warning labels is a sad reality.

Unfortunately, this is recommended only for those women who are less than 10 years away from when they entered menopause.

You are almost correct. Any type of hormone therapy does have long term side effects, not just cancer risks. I don’t know who told you that manipulating your body’s immune system has no risks but they lied to you. Immunotherapy for cancer treatments is extremely difficult on your body, less difficult than chemotherapy no doubt, but it certainly comes with several risks

thanks for clarifying. I shouldn’t have said no risk at all.
Either way, I thought Gayle King’s perspective drove home the whole point. Big FDA warnings like that can almost exaggerate the risk and scare people away. Of course, you should always talk to your doctor first.

I know....right. this sucks. I doubt a man would survive night sweats wanting to get up and get in front of an AC and 7 fans. one attached to the bed board.

Have to emphasize the R in hormone replacement therapy--as in, replacing what was once there and not abusing the hormones by adding more than is natural for one's body. That can be dialed in through labwork.
Additionally, not replacing hormones carries long-term risks too. So the risks seem like a net neutral with a net quality of life increase through replacement therapy.

I suffered through horrible hot flashes, bed soaking night sweats and debilitating headaches bc I was terrified of life threatening side effects of HRT. I made it through it naturally but I’m not sure anyone in this house survived unscathed.

Exactly the point, this is to help with their hormones and aid in giving them balance.
My wife has been in perimenopause for about a decade, and it's honestly a damned shame how uneducated (or dare I say how much they purposely chose) the women's OB and Primary Care doctors are about women's hormones! It seriously is a travesty! I'm not the most educated fella, but even I knew enough from basic experience and education through sports & exercise to be able to challenge her doctors and legitimately stump them. Again this is not me bragging trying to say I'm the smart man in the room that knows all things, but rather how BAD it is from the doctors.
Then you go into potential links to heart disease and the rise in hormonal cancers in women from most of the guidance given by doctors then that really makes me want to put on my tin foil hat.

not correct. taking HRT does come with risks. the original study was flawed bc of pt selection. WHI recruited pts that were well past menopause and started them on hormones. this is not how pts begin hormones normally. the begin them much younger when they begin to have symptoms.
