Power, Politics, and the Fall of Scott Woodward

The battle that brought down LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward was never just about football. It was political from the start. Woodward wasn’t simply the athletic face of Louisiana’s flagship university — he was a fixture in Baton Rouge’s old political guard. A registered Democrat and protégé of James Carville, Woodward was handpicked for the LSU job in 2019 by then-Governor John Bel Edwards. His arrival symbolized the continuation of a familiar order — one where the upper ranks of LSU operated as an extension of the state’s entrenched political establishment rather than a reflection of its people.
quote:
For a time, that arrangement worked. The state’s legacy donors, Carville’s inner circle, and the Baton Rouge media elite all celebrated Woodward’s return as a “homecoming.” But the truth is, Woodward’s career has always been defined less by athletics than by politics and public relations. He’s a PR expert first — someone who understands message control, media access, and narrative management better than almost anyone in Louisiana public life.
quote:
Under Woodward’s leadership, LSU athletics reflected the cultural priorities of national media, not the values of most Louisianans. He presided over high-profile, divisive gestures of support for the Black Lives Matter movement and implemented one of the most heavy-handed COVID policies in the South: requiring proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test to enter Tiger Stadium. Fans who “preverified” their vaccine status were given wristbands granting them access to special “fast pass” entry lanes — a symbol, to many, of the bureaucratic elitism that had seeped into LSU’s culture. Meanwhile, Woodward’s calling card — his high-dollar coaching contracts — became cautionary tales in excess. He left Texas A&M with the $75 million Jimbo Fisher buyout still hanging over the program, then recreated the same problem at LSU with Brian Kelly’s $95 million deal. Now, LSU is staring down the barrel of another multi-decade financial liability for a failed hire.

The Will Wade debacle was a perfect illustration of this. Woodward placated the national media and ignored the populists support for WW.

The John Bel years set Louisiana back 40 years. David Vitter would have been the best Governor since Mike Foster. The fact that Louisiana Republicans abandoned Vitter for a corrupt Democrat is unconscionable.

Imagine what Wade Rousse is discovering right now. Who knows what else Tate et al was up to.

I had absolutely no idea about the Woodward and Carville connection but now I understand why Carville freaked out and melted about burning his degree and such. It now makes sense.

I suspected as much. I've repeatedly told my friends that the desertion and then firing of Orgeron was all political.
The Hiring of Pellini was all political fiasco.
Pellini is a good coach and was thought of highly by all the players who knew him in his first tenure at LSU. I think the 07 LSU team, National Championship, led the nation in total defense, and they showed it vs Ohio St. in the Championship game.
It was obvious in their 2020 first game vs Ms St that something was amiss. Then the rumors began to spread. Orgeron said that he didn't interview him prior to his hire. Who did? Only one man had that authority.

I don't want to bust anyone bubble here but being from a HOF coaches family and playing college and high school football as well as my brother for LSU as my Dad Uncles cousins etc, and coaching as volunteer for a decades, politics has no place in football period. I don't even know the politics of anyone who played for me or with me or give a frick, but since it's best players are generally black or poor probably a bunch of them are democrats saving to be Republicans

Politically connected Democrat ultimately fricks things up and leaves behind a mess.
Well there’s a twist we’ve never heard of before.

I never knew he was a protege of Carville but that shouldn't surprise me. And it was obvious that some ridiculous bullshite was going on behind the scenes when LSU went all-in on the BLM bullshite during the "summer of love".
That's actually what caused me to no longer wish to be a fan of the university or it's sports teams any longer, after over 30 years of fandom dating back to when a guy named Arnsparger was coaching the football team. But getting political meant the team walked away from me, so I reciprocated and haven't looked back.
College football was the one fricking thing I liked (outside of fishing) that hadn't been corrupted by woke ideology and then POOF, it was over just like that.

I remember being in the dome when the Saints were on their way to the Super Bowl. Everyone was cheering. Blacks were hugging whites and whites were hugging blacks.
Bourbon Street was the same atmosphere until the sun came up the next day.
Think about the destruction democratic policies had in turning around that kind of brotherly love in a short time afterwards.
Democrats could frick up a wet dream.

See ya Woody. Shouldn't have been connected at the hip with the Carvilles.

His pathetic pre game recorded speech about accepting browns, gays and transjingus was the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever heard at a LSU events. fricking ridiculous!

I’m still pissed at Woodward from stealing Kim Mulkey from Baylor.

Sounds like Woody might have been complicit in her BBall team not wanting to honor the natl anthem. Mulkey seems upset that libtard Woody has been axed
quote:
"We have reviewed Governor Landry's letter on the national anthem. At LSU, we have and will always be dedicated to the flag, the anthem and the country. We consistently look at our processes and will do so again. As Louisiana's flagship university, LSU always strives to represent the higher ideals and values of our students, our state, and our country," Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said in the issued statement.
