Heavy emphasis on may, but if they stand in the way of the Big 10 selling out to private equity...

The Big Ten has signaled to Michigan & USC that it plans to move forward with a $2.4B capital deal, sources tell Yahoo Sports. U-M & USC face a tentative deadline (Nov. 20) before it may vote to extend the GoR without all members - an unprecedented step.
If Michigan and USC do not agree to the capital deal with UC Investments, the schools may lose millions in additional capital funds and risk their future within the conference beyond 2036 - the current existing end of the league’s grant-of-rights.
The potential for a 16-school capital agreement has sparked a meeting Monday among board members at five Big Ten schools and reps from the American Council of Trustees & Alumni, which believes board members have been illegally cut out of the process, they tell Yahoo Sports.

The Big Ten threatening kicking out a cornerstone member (Michigan) because they rightfully don’t want to sell out to PE is disgusting.

The big 10 is hell bent on ruining college football.

I could see Ohio State pulling strings behind the curtains to get it to happen.

I embrace the new Michigan-Texas Tech Big 12 rivalry game on Thanksgiving weekend.

They should have shut down the program this year anyway for their disgusting cheating behaviors.

The amount I despise the Big Ten cannot be overstated. It’s a collection of self-righteous, moral less, conceded douchebags hell bent on ruining college athletics.

Being an ACC fan, we will gladly take Michigan
and Penn St
But knowing how we operate, we will sign Eastern Michigan

Big10 tried to kill football during Covid and now they are trying to kill it again. Worst fricking conference

Put Michigan and USC in another conference together

Michigan could sign a Notre Dame-style deal with NBC tomorrow.
As could USC.
As could USC.

So when the big 10 sells to PE do they immediately cut every sport besides Football and basketball? There is zero way PE would keep those sports

Title IX requires at least four women's sports to balance football and MBB and the NCAA requires a total of 14 teams to be FBS. The former is federal law. PE would need to get the NCAA to nuke the latter, which then lowers the bar for getting into FBS.

Seems like a dumb long term move.
Hey here’s a bunch of upfront cash that most of you actually don’t even need right now , and from now til forever we get 10% of the conference pie.
It’s basically the Big10 taking out an infinity loan/mortgage that they don’t even need. They’ve already got plenty of cash and a huge house that is paid off, why would you take out a loan?
Oh btw, you give up 10% control of future moves and decisions, along with giving up 10% of the financial pie moving forward. You’re basically adding another team/school to the conference financially without actually adding any value To the conference. The ONLY benefit is the upfront cash…. Which again most of the schools in the conference don’t need the cash anyway.

Seems like concerns are being raised at other schools as well. The relentless pursuit of huge financial windfalls have blinded athletic directors and university leaders.
Anytime they have been questioned about the their decisions or the long term implications, they have hidden behind their conference affiliations and the extra millions they are bringing into the university.
USC and Michigan haven’t signed off because they don’t have the support of the other stewards of their universities. The potential ramifications from this GoR deal crosses a line with for a lot of people that have a lot more foresight and experience than random ADs or university presidents.
