What is the actual rule? Is it where he starts the slide? Is it where his body first touches the ground. Looked to me as he was at or just past the line of gain when he slides.

It is where he starts his slide. The gain after giving himself up is irrelevent.

Starts the slide. It was the right call. MVB had no reason to slide there though.

If you don’t slide one of those scary guys in red may get his hands on you. Our quarterbacks can’t have that.

It’s to prevent QBs from beating the system. The defensive players have to pull up when they see a QB giving himself up

Basically what we learned is, don’t slide.

Player safety is only a focus part of the time.

MVB made a mistake and should have had better field awareness there. It happens.

You will get downvoted, but it doesn't change the fact you are correct. He should have held from sliding so early. Or just dove head first. He still had plenty of space to avoid being hit.

Well in that case he should have dove head first and he picks it up easily.

This rule is thanks to the QBs faking sliding and running in for a TD a few years back. The easy answer is to dive which he did later in the game. They still can’t really hit you once you dive too much of a risk of targeting.

Van Buren could easily have solved that problem by not sliding in that critical situation.
