Entergy Metal Pole Upgrades

If anyone has driven on Hwy. 308 between Lockport and Larose, you probably have seen new metal power poles going up.
What confuses me is that not only are they putting up metal ones, they are also putting new wood thicker ones too in some sections.
It makes no sense to me. Why not stick with all or the other?
Heck they even came back down my street and replaced the poles they just put after Ida.
Just my two nickels worth of knowledge since we are out of pennies.
I know it is a random rant on a Sunday morning.

Are the metal ones transmission and wood distribution?

Honest question: has much really been done to harden our electrical grid? I know burying everything isnt feasible but it all looks the same. All of the line men I talked to from out of town in Houma were shocked at how bad our grid is

The poles are on the distribution side. They are along the highway, and not large transmission lines. Those are further in the back and were upgraded before Ida to medal and did pretty well.

They're doing this on River Road and along Nicholson in EBR

Could be a number of reasons.
Fun fact, unless engineered for the exact location, standard metal poles are designed for the same ground line moment as standard wood poles. One does not offer an advantage over the other in most situations.

"Upgrades", supports for 5-6-7G microwave transmitters.
Also: NOT about "improving communications".

At the substation level, yes. Communities need to be more productive in working with the power companies to keep overgrowth out of the right of way.

Galveston Texas coast has the metal ones as well

This is the key….if every were kept perfectly clear of vegetation, there would be few power outages.

Another reason for them to raise your rates even higher.

People don’t think the grid be like it is but it do.

In Montz, they just upgraded all poles you metal. Both Transmission and Distribution.

I've never seen a metal pole snap in half during a hurricane.

Call me a traditionalist but I just can’t get behind these. Threw something about the wood that brings you right back to childhood and the history of the industry. The crack of the electricity coming off that wood pole. Feel like I’m 12 again.
