Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer on Friday offered a new plan to Republicans that would allow the U.S. government to reopen after a shutdown that began on Oct. 1.

Schumer’s proposal calls for Democrats to agree to pass a so-called clean resolution that would provide short-term funding for government operations.

In exchange, Schumer said, Republicans would agree to a one-year extension of existing enhanced tax credits that are used to reduce the cost of health insurance purchased on Affordable Care Act marketplaces.

The other leg of the deal calls for the establishment of a bipartisan committee to continue negotiations on long-term reforms to address the issue of health-care affordability.

Here comes the Republicans caving.

Which they would then use as midterm messaging. “If you vote R, your healthcare is going away”

Hope leadership isn’t dumb enough to take that, but I have little faith

Our fricking party will fall for it too

You can set your watch by the shutdown calendar at this point.

If Republicans fall for this, they're absolutely retarded. Will be right back here this time next year in the middle of midterm elections!

If we want to move on, take it. They are going to extend them by 12/31 anyway.

If Chucky seems weak or they just want to be politicians, make him take the clean CR.

I’m ok with a one year extension it is means they actually do something to make the necessary changes to the ACA. the current situation is unsustainable with or without the enhanced subsidies.

Edit…actually nevermind. Didn’t think about the Mid-terms next year. This is a no go politically.

Im not a fan of killing the filibuster, but it kind of feels like they should offer a 6 month extension as bait to open the govt, then in Jan, kill the filibuster and pass new legislation doing away with the ACA credits.

The Dems always stay in line whereas the repubs cave

I don’t understand the democrats on this. Let the ACA subsidies expire. Thats the policy republicans in Congress endorsed. That would be a political nightmare for republicans in 2026.

I don't care as long as it doesn't include 1 Trillion dollars for illegal alien healthcare.

Nope...that puts any further extensions into the election year which simply fuels the fire next year building on this year.'

I have an idea like Regan firing the ATCs when they struck. Do it my way or else.
