Election is over. Democrats are done playing games.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune told fellow Republicans in a private lunch that he plans to hold a vote Friday that could pave the way to end the government shutdown, according to two people in the room who were granted anonymity to describe his comments.
The plan, the people said, is to bring up the House-passed continuing resolution that Democrats have repeatedly rejected and then seek to amend it with a new expiration date very likely in January as well as a negotiated package of three full-year spending bills.

Asked if they were moving closer to an agreement, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) — who has helped lead the bipartisan talks — told reporters after the Democratic lunch she didn’t know. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called it a “very good, productive meeting.”

Freshman Senate Democrats and House Republicans are meeting to craft a bipartisan plan to extend ACA subsidies before they expire at year’s end. The goal: lower premiums and reopen the government.
Here’s what’s unfolding:
Who’s Involved
- Senate Democrats: Andy Kim (NJ) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE) are leading the charge.
- House Republicans: Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) and Jeff Van Drew (NJ) are joining the talks.
What’s at Stake
- Enhanced ACA subsidies—used by over 20 million Americans—are set to expire at the end of 2025.
- Without action, premiums could spike, especially for middle-income enrollees.
- Democrats see this as a chance to reopen the government by tying the ACA extension to a broader funding deal.
Key Proposals on the Table
- A two-year extension of ACA tax credits with:
- An income cap between $200,000 and $400,000.
- Fraud guardrails, like verifying recipients and cracking down on shady brokers.
- Some House Republicans may support a discharge petition to force a vote if leadership resists.
Political Dynamics
- Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to commit to a vote on the subsidies.
- Van Drew is reportedly lobbying President Trump to back at least a one-year extension.
- Moderate lawmakers say this is a test of whether bipartisanship can still work in Washington.
Why It Matters
- This huddle could be a rare bipartisan breakthrough amid gridlock.
- If successful, it may shield vulnerable lawmakers from political fallout and protect millions from premium hikes.

GOP will cave.
It’s in their nature.
Trump is in a bad spot here. He can’t exactly win popularity points in either scenario.

They have to find a way to not make Chuck look like the old fool he is.

Wow totally shocking and no one could have ever predicted this

Why give them the subsidy now? They could have done that 4 weeks ago and not suffered the shutdown.

Just heard that Schumer shut down any talks again.

They could have made the agreement as part of a full year appropriations bill, but softened the return to pre subsidy levels. I hope that’s the agreement.
They should keep the continuing resolution as it is.

The dems have played this perfectly

GOP is bending over and spreading for the dems. That 2 year extension will just turn into another 2 year extension and then another.

Response to how bad the Republicans will cave.
Just bitch about the “Schumer Shutdown” then resuscitate Obamacare instead of repealing it.
I hate the GOPe. They’re a bunch of pussies who just want to stay at the cool table and they will blame Trump when a move that is ridiculously unpopular with their actual voters when the get shellacked in the midterms.
fricking idiots

This is the type of reporting that is so lazy.
Without the pandemic.. these subsidies wouldn’t even exist. The prices will go to the level it would be with the ACA along with its original subsidies.
They have the absolute idiots believing the original ACA subsidies are being axed and not just the pandemic spending. Better yet…. The democrats are the ones that put in the end date as well as voted for that end date enthusiastically.
So again, we have to spend more to prop up this colossal failure of Obamacare. And the leftists will again run around screaming “Trump deficits!!!”

Easy to do when dealing with the Congressional GOP

The bigger issue is it needs a "wealth cap" if it's going to exist at all.
We have millionaires getting ACA subsidies to cover them retiring early.
If you doubt this, just read FIRE forum posts. It's ridiculous. The income cap that high won't stop that.

frick them if they continue to breathe life into Obamacare
Posted on 11/6/25 at 6:35 pm to stout
I was hoping part of it is “negotiating the ACA at a later date” to see the dems immediately forget about the recent elections and melt
