Which Brad Pitt movie is better, “Legends of the Fall” or “A River Runs Through It”?

IMO, both are masterpieces, but I have to give the nod to Legends of the Fall.

There’s something about the 3rd act of Legends that I just didn’t care for. I need to go back and watch it again.
I think that A River Runs Through It is more polished. Its a great film.

Both great movies but A River Runs Through It isn’t as depressing as Legends of the Fall

A River runs through it is probably a top 10 all time movie for me.
Legends of the fall is good but not great., imo.

A River Runs Through It
And it isn't particularly close.

Perfectly said. Some parts of LOTF are over the top.

A River Runs Through It for me.
It's simple film beautifully produced with multiple meaningful life lessons.
Even a short tragically flawed life can have great achievements and influences that make it worth living.

A river runs through it is almost a perfect film for me.

From Wikipedia:
I may have to catch this flick. That sounds like my idea of a good time.

quote:
Norman and Paul get separated from Neal but fish anyway and return to their car hours later to find that Neal and Rawhide have drunk all the beer, had sex, and passed out naked.

Legends of the Fall is the ultimate, "I'm not gay, but if I was", Brad Pitt movie. Maybe it's the long hair, or maybe Pitt just looks great riding a horse, but somehow he just becomes the most manly man on earth, and one of the most sensitive, in one role.
Maybe it's just a way of looking back on life, but his character is the kind of man we all wish we had been. And there's a little bit of, "I was like that growing up. I was rough and tough, and had a hard belly.
When he's old and half senile, he'll probably sit and watch it, and fall in love with himself.
ETA: A River Runs Through It is the better movie.

The best line in "A River Runs Through It"
"They were Methodists - a denomination my father always referred to as Baptists who could read."
ETA...I haven't thought about that movie in a long time...now I've got to find somewhere to stream A River Runs Through It. Damnit!!!

A River Runs through It is just an amazing film. Honestly, Robert Redford could read stereo instructions and I would listen.

I like them both, but in college, "A River Runs Through It" single-handedly turned me into a fly fisherman. I don't live close to a stream like I did in college, but I still try to get out on the river a few times a year. Therefore, ARRTI gets the win.

A River Runs Through It for me. Legends of the Fall is a decent movie, but not super memorable. I hadn't thought about that movies in years until you brought it up. A River Runs Through It is an all time great and pretty much a perfect movie.

I’ve always wondered about “River Runs…”.
Spoiler for a 30 year old movie…
Was Brad Pitt’s death filmed and cut out, or was it shot this way? He was a fighter since a little boy with no fear.
Plus, I wonder if there more scenes shot at The LoLo bar, where Pitt is getting wrecked at the table.

Legends is campy and superficial. Nice scenery, but the story and dialogue are a bit shallow, at least.
River is exquisite.
