A lil histore' of the US filibuster. It was created by the US Senate in way back in 1917. Woodrow Wilson, looking at you.

Look up Senate rule 22.

The US Senate can easily lower it to 55, 54, 53....by a simple majority vote.

Once they stop this idiocy that UpChuck and the sewer rats are playing, raise the filibuster threshold back up to 60.

Easy peasy

BTW, the US Senate can reintroduce the rule where there has to be an ACTIVE speaker on the US Senate floor making an ACTUAL speech.

No more flying off the Aruba, Paris, Hawaii...and party. A US Senator wants to filibuster, he/she needs their pathetic butt on the Senate floor giving a speech.

AND they could make them actually be there and speak a la Mr. Smith goes to Washington. The filibuster rules are pussified nowadays.

If they did this the filibuster would effectively be 55 from now on, because whenever anyone with 55 votes, but short of 60, was stymied they’d lower it again.

Sinema and Manchin are all that stopped it with the Dims in control. Does anyone on here think that any Dim in the Senate now other than Fetterman would stop it if the Dims get back in control. It is inevitable it would happen.

Harry Reid dropped the filibuster from 60 to simple majority for judges. Looked what that has gotten us. Wacked out far left judges.

The US Senate could easily end it TODAY. All it would take is a simple majority vote.

Oh, and don't think the sewer rats in the democrat party won't do if they
ever get back the majority in the US Senate.

BTW, if you do a simple goo-goo search, the threshold used to be 66 votes to end a filibuster.

Guess WHO changed it from 66 votes to 60 votes?

I did not know that.

The last time the democrats held power they would not change the filibuster.

This per goggle:

quote:

Original rule (1917): Rule 22 was first adopted to end the filibuster of President Woodrow Wilson's proposal to arm merchant ships during World War I. The rule initially required a two-thirds majority vote to end debate.

IDK the actual number of US Senators back in 1917. It was not 100 US, I think there were 96 US Senators, before Alaska and Hawaii were admitted into the Union.

quote:

Changes over time: The rule was later modified in 1975 to lower the cloture threshold to three-fifths (60 votes).

The Dems will cave. It’s all politics— for yesterday’s elections.

The filibuster is the last line of defense against the tyranny of the majority in the house. I don’t care if Trump doesn’t get another bill passed for his entire term… don’t drop the filibuster. Because there’s probably better than a 50% chance as it sits today that the Dems will take the house in 26 and the White House in 28.

They’ll never give the power back once they take it.

Leave it at 60 and make them work it out. The last thing I want is a parliamentary system where simple majority rules everything.

I am with you on keeping the filibuster in place. Lots of evil, stupid idiotic garbage has been avoided because of it

The US House requires only a separate majority vote to pass a bill as does the US Senate. The US House does not have a filibuster rule.

The filibuster only applies to the US Senate. Once the Senate filibuster is voted down, all it takes is a simple majority vote in the Senate to pass the respective bill.

Still way too early to speculate about the '26 midterms. Lots can happen between now and Nov '26.

Same with the '28 US Presidential election. The US economy is starting to cook again.

If the US economy continues to go up, its going to be hard for the dems to win in both '26 and '28.

Anyone ever watched British Parliament in session when it's getting heated? Pretty entertaining when they nearly or sometimes actually come to fisticuffs. We need more of that energy in Congress, especially with loud mouths like Spartacus and Swallowswell on one side and legit brawlers like Markwayne Mullin on the other.

Bro,

I’m fully aware of how the houses of congress work. I think you missed my point.

And I think it’s very easy and not too early to speculate. Mid terms are historically bad for the party in power. And Trump hate will fuel the left to turnout. It’s going to be bad.

Roger on that.

If Tuesday says anything, the GOP needs to be on their Ps and Qs from here on out.

Not just that. Mitch ran through a ton of lower level judges, but everyone forgets about that.

Have no doubt that the communists will bend or jump through whatever legal loophole they need in the future. The age of a gentleman's government are over. Both parties have violated age old customs repeatedly in the last 30 years. We have 12 months til midterms. Nuclear options are all on the table.
