Just got all of the alerts here locally. Shelter in place for 5 miles.
Calling it an “airplane incident” so no one is sure if it crashed. Saw in a local scanner group that folks at Worldport are saying that it was on fire on the ground.
ETA: Employees in the hub are locked in at this point (it’s right about shift change).

That’s terrible. Prayers for anyone onboard or affected on the ground.
I guess if there’s any silver lining is this wasn’t a passenger plane.

I can see the smoke form my house. Has to be UPS or large commercial airliner.

UPS pilots used to hang out at the bar i went to a lot when I lived in Louisville. They had crazy flight schedules

With no air traffic controllers to guide the planes, what could go wrong?

I think UPS uses their own controllers

They do. Especially at WorldHub.

MD11 is basically a coffin with wings.

It's like Castaway... Without the water.

Was that like bird strike on takeoff in the left engine? That engine was on hella fire as he was trying to climb. RIP. Sad

Yeah they are. They had one you could tour at Louisville Aviation Festival one year and that’s exactly what it is.
Also for folks curious, one of the Ford plants is also right next to that area.
