Shaheed and Cooks and Olave are the same player. Vele is at least the correct body type for his position. He probably sucks, but now we will know for sure because we have to play him.

It’s not that simple but it would be nice to have 2 fourths including likely the first pick.
That’s how real depth is built. Not having a guy who’s rookie deal coincides with when you are bottoming out and will then be 30 years old if you pay him a second contract.

And that doesn’t include the most important part…Shaheed is expiring. He will get paid $25m+/yr this offseason. So we were either paying that, or letting him walk and being unable to sign FAs of our own or risk losing out in the comp pick formula.

Vele is on a cheap deal a couple of more years. Shaheed about to get his 2nd contract. The value in Vele is the contract.

The Vele trade was stupid. Contract numbers play a part, but Shaheed was elite at catching the deep ball. I haven’t see Vele do anything elite other than be big.
