“My child isn’t picky. His brain just won’t let him try new foods”

I saw this posted by a lady on Facebook just now. Any thoughts? Lol
I think it’s just more pussification of America at work. We have to come up with medical reasons to justify our children being spoiled in order to try to show that it’s not really our fault.

ARFID is a legit eating disorder that some kids have that causes them to be picky, but it can easily be addressed. Parents need to quit spoiling their kids.

Picky eaters make me see red
We have an extended family member that will only eat chicken tenders that are cut in a certain way but this behavior was 100% enabled by an overbearing grandmother.

My parents were not going to make two or three meals lol.

My thoughts are that I wish people would stop conflating what they perceive as a justification for something for the existence of something. It's ok to say that your child is a picky eater due to (insert whatever reason here). Saying that they aren't a picky eater, they just (insert justification here) makes about as much sense as saying "no, my child isn't paralyzed; a severed spinal cord just won't let him walk".

My stepson has this. He’s 5’9 and weighs 100 lbs. Not much we could do only having him on weekends. He subsists on Ramen, subway, and Taco Bell.

It's kind of true.
For instance, I read once that if you don't eat veggies for a while, when you start back they will taste bad. We have an evolutionary concern built in for veggies from our hunter-gatherer days because of the threat of poisonous plants.
Also there are some genetic components involved.

That is silly because my daughter is picky and i don't think her brain is too thrilled with new foods.
We make her try everything we make but then let her make her own dinner now that she is 12 if she wants. She only likes bland foods, its infuriating, but my wife was a picky eater as a child and she said it got better as she got older.
eta: also before i get I'd JuSt LeT mY cHiLd StArVe, we tried that. She'd just not eat and get sick and the doctor said just let her eat the same things and make sure she gets a multivitamin. HUGE PAIN IN THE arse THOUGH.

As a parent of a child that is a picky eater, it is 90% her mother's fault for not making her eat more foods and10% mine for allowing it. I was willing to starve her to make her eat things. Now we make 3 different meals for everyone and I'm tired of it. Also, now we are seekign thereapy to help her try new things. It is fricking maddening.

Well yea, that's kind of how being a picky eater works

It is, luckily she got old enough to cook so we make her cook and clean her own meals and she's fine with it.

That's the whole point of having to force picky children to eat things they think they don't like.
Tell me how you "force" this, please. I'm all ears.

We've made ours try every meal we cook and we are like 1 for 87 on things she ends up liking anyway.

I can't tell if this is a serious question or not.

With my kids, we started a “bites per age” rule. If you’re 3, you have to take 3 bites, etc. We also allowed them to opt out of one specific food each.
I was a super picky eater as a kid, and I tried to avoid the kind of power struggles I grew up with. I’m much better as an adult.

The struggle is real. There have been so many arguments over this, as recently as last night dinner. I am so sick of my youngest being a picky eater.
There have been many times we're I've just said "fine, you don't want to eat it, go hungry". He's perfectly willing to go hungry.

Eat or don’t eat. Not my problem.
This is all parents fault. Plus some made up diseases to justify their bad parenting.
