I would be satisfied if they would ever try and make the uniforms look like they are supposed to like in these videos. They don't even try and make them like the toys or cartoons. That's what makes this awesome. I do like the hair metal music also! Nice touches!

Both songs are better than literally any Billboard Hot 100 song released in the past 20 years.
InB4 someone demands a Cold Slither music video in this format.

I would've demanded my parents buy me the female COBRA grunt figure.

Damn straight! But I would almost argue 30 years even.

There was some pretty amazing alternative tunes that came out of the back half of the 90s (Garbage, Foo Fighters, et al.), so I figure that 25 years may be a happy medium.

I didn't realize that they created so many new characters since the G.I. Joe heyday of the 80s. I had a ton of the toys going up, and watched just about all the 80s cartoons, and there are a lot of characters in both of these videos that I never heard of. A Cobra character actually had a pig?

All of those chars were from the 80s.

Yeah, after GI Joe: The Movie, stuff started getting weird. Hasbro ran out of ideas, started repainting older models a la Tiger Force, making Joe vehicles COBRA & vice versa. It got strange.
I'd heard of 90% of the ones shown, maybe more, but the ones that I wasn't familiar with came along once I'd moved into my teenage years.

I went down the rabbit hole of looking up the characters that I didn't recognize, and I guess you are basically right. A few came out in 1989 and one in 1990. But I had grown out of the toy collecting phase of my childhood by 1989, so I guess that's why I didn't recognize some of them.

More testosterone there than all the movies out of Hollywood last year combined

As a kid i remember thinking it was dumb how many redundant characters they had on both sides. The vipers looked cool but were they really necessary when you already had troopers and crimson guards? Did GI Joe need a handful of cold weather experts? And dont get me started on Serpentor.
Then you grow up and realize its all just so they could create more toys to get money. I think i remember reading or listening to an interview with Larry Hama where he said people from Hasbro tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to start writing up new characters for this purpose.

Watching the Netflix series "The Toys that Made us" was eye opening for me. I always assumed that toys were made to capitalize on the success of cartoons and other kid-friendly IPs, but it turns out that a lot of comic books, cartoons, movies, etc were created to basically serve as 30-90 minute commercials to specifically sell toys. And when the toy market for something started to stagnate, they created a new character or storyline so that they can create a new toy to sell.
Paw Patrol is the current version of this.

I was in on the first 3-4 generations and I didn’t recognize about half of them, maybe more.

That Cobra song is pretty badass.
Kinda makes me want to sign up.
Do Cobra soldiers have coed locker rooms? Cause they have some serious talent on that side.
