I asked AI (Claude) to list all of the contracts where the initial contract was 10 years. As you can see below only 4 times, and the first was an outlier as the coach had already apparently coached for 7 games (Charlie Weis @ND)
Of the other 3, 2 had the same AD (Scott Woodward). The other one seems to be performing well (Cristobal at Miami), currently.
Scott Woodward now has an unfortunate track record of mega-misses at 2 different schools of the single most high-profile contract.
Why would any stakeholder (high dollar donor, LSU BOS, Administrators, etc) want someone with a track record of failure be the point person responsible for the next contract?
A definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and expecting different results.
Highly possible that Gov Landry was the public “voice” to put this out there but the majority of behind the scenes wanted this but needed the position cleaned up before new president arrives
initial 10-year contracts when first hired at their school:
Jimbo Fisher - Texas A&M (December 2017) - His initial deal when leaving Florida State for Texas A&M was worth $75 million over 10 years and was fully guaranteed
Mario Cristobal - Miami (December 2021) - Reportedly received a 10-year, $80 million contract when hired from Oregon
Charlie Weis - Notre Dame (2005) - Received a 10-year agreement in his first season after starting 5-2
Brian Kelly - LSU (2021) - Signed a 10-year deal worth $95 million when he left Notre Dame to become LSU’s head coach

there aren't many people that disagree. even less think Scott should keep his job. But, having the governor do a TV circuit creates a circus that can cause a negative ripple effect. I doubt you'd have anyone complaining on here, even Scott fans, if Landry never talks publicly about any of this.
