We know that Verge was really pushing to get Freeman here as Orgeron's DC. Freeman obviously ended up at ND and Verge sent his son there to play out of HS. With Verge being interim AD, I'd assume he will have the majority of the influence on the next hire. I have to think he goes after Freeman again, right?

On another note Ryan Clark's son also spent his last season of CFB at ND. Hopefully Clark doesn't have any influence here, but I'm sure he probably has a positive relationship with Ausberry himself.

Do yall expect this to elevate Freeman to LSU's #1 target?

frick that. No more coach's from ND.Apparently coaching there doesn't mean squat for a resume.

Freeman would be an excellent hire, but he's not leaving ND for LSU. I'd bet my life on that.

This is some dumb frick logic.

Lets reverse timelines and say Mel Tucker was at MSU before Saban. Would we not want Saban because Tucker was fools gold?

Obviously, I am not involved in any way, but I have to believe that the AD in these situations is simply the mouthpiece. The guys that write the checks drive this ship.

other than not being a pompous arse, in what ways is Freeman a better coach than Kelly?

Is it how he loses to 2 teams he should beat every year?

I'm all for former players being welcomed back around the team... except Ryan Clark. That a-hole needs to be kept as far away from LSU as possible. I hope he has absolutely 0 influence in the next hire, or really any decisions LSU makes going forward.

I think Freeman would be a mistake.

If Freeman wins out he's 10-2 and probably de facto ACC champ.....he goes to playoffs . He would be untouchable......you think you can box with God and ND......together. ND money can swamp LSU money if they wanted.

Don't even get me started if Our Lady is called to get involved.

Let's reverse the reverse.

What has Freeman done that warrants the HC position at LSU, and makes him the best choice? Because of his relationship with Verge?

Hopefully none but you know he's going to try to insert himself in some capacity. And I assume he has Verge's ear considering that they've run in the same circles for so long

i don't remember all the details, but IF he was rumored to coming here as DC, then ND offered and he went there because he's from Ohio and him/his wife wanted to be closer to family, I don't see him now saying hey, lets go to LSU. he just took ND to the title game, i don't think he's going anywhere. just my worthless opinion.

Things are a bit different when you're being offered a DC position under a faltering Coach O vs the HC job

Jesus Christ the arrogance of this board. This thread isn't about who you want. This is about what will Verge do

When Freeman was first promoted at ND I thought it was a bad move on their part. He hasn’t proven to a really good coach though. He also is a high character guy whose players seem to love. I would not be disappointed if he were our next coach, but I don’t see him leaving.

he was coming to the faltering coach, UNTIL the team from his region offered. the only thing that changed is WHO offered along with our faltering coach, and they chose to go near home for his wife's\family's sake. at least that's what was spewed on here for days on end after ND got him, but makes logical senese.
