I forgot to mention my favorite option to be LSU’s next head coach & the guy who could most quickly get the Tigers to the mountain top (in my opinion):
KENNY DILLINGHAM -
Arizona State Head Coach
This guy is a complete stud. I got to know him 3 years ago when he was Oregon’s Offensive Coordinator (in Dan Lanning’s first year as Ducks coach)
It took only 20 minutes of interviewing/talking to Dillingham before an Oregon game to make me a believer that he was going to be the next “big thing” in college football….
And he has proved me right. He took over a last place Arizona State team the following year in 2023….
And by 2024, he already won the Big 12 Conference Title, as well as a spot in the College Football Playoff last year (and was one play away from upsetting highly favored Texas in that playoff game)
The Devils have struggled a little bit this year because their star quarterback has been injured half the season…but trust me, this guy has the goods.
Super energetic, magnetic personality & still only 35 years old!!!
He was an offensive coordinator at Memphis when he was 27…then at Auburn at 29, Florida State at 30, and finally Oregon at 32.
He has the pedigree, plus the skins on the wall at such a young age.
Open up the vault and grab this guy for the next 25 years!!!
He is at his alma mater now, and makes over $7M a year...

The more I think about it, the more I think he's the fallback. He isnt leaving ASU for any opening unless its a big time job.
In my mind, the next head coach will be Lane, Key, Drinkwitz, or Dillingham.

Support just for the Dilly Dilly memes.
Already making $7mm is rough though. How much higher would we have to go to get him away from his Alma Mater?
Once you start getting to 11 -12 might as well just throw the book at Lane.

Really good last year, mostly because of skattebo i’d guess.
Disappointing this year outside of their win against Texas Tech

DILLINGHAM gives off Jay Johnson type vibes to me. I would not hate the hire

He would be an outstanding choice after a couple other names.
I’m not sure if he will leave Az State though, since he’s home, but money and prestige talks.
It depends on how hungry he is to get to the top of the mountain or if he just wants to make the Alma Mater the best he can make them!

I won't consider resumes of people like that who switch companies every 1-2 years. Just sayin'.

Mixed feelings about him. Moo State hasn’t won an SEC game in 3 years but they beat AZ State

That picture he looks like Will wade

I think the difference between a really good coach and a great championship coach is the ability to have a back up come in and have immediate success. The king of doing so was Nick Saban. Lane Kiffin also has a history of doing this and is doing so this season.
We want a guy who isn’t going to let injury or inferior skilled player derail the season. Seems like Dillingham is having an “awe shucks” which will get old with this fanbase real quick.
I’m sure Dillingham is a great coach and will continue to have success. Will likely have a 10 or 11 win team 2 out of 4 years. That’s not what LSU deserves or wants. This isn’t about a splash hire, this is about winning championships at the level most here expect and want.

Key is at his alma mater as well. I just tend to think that those guys (Brohm and Clark Lea are in this category as well) are the toughest to pull. Dillingham in particular grew up there, met his wife at ASU - she is also from there. They now have a great life at a place that they love that has always been home to them and they are able to raise their family there. That works for some - does not work for others. But I just tend to think that in general in the coaching profession at such a high level that guys that are coaching at a place that they attended and played at are the toughest to pull away. Money does obviously play a factor but it won't be the deciding factor for a lot of those guys.
