Alright I’ll be that guy. What’s with the recent push to stop circumcising young men?

Feel like I see this popping up more and more. I think Oregon is looking at banning this entirely (hilarious if they stay the only state that does this and that becomes a calling card of being from Oregon)
What’s the deal here? I know it started as a religious procedure but my understanding is that apparently there are significant health benefits to this as well as ease of cleanliness.
Of course Reddit is all in on this and acts like it’s unnecessary mutilation that ruins lives.
What am I missing? Is this regression? Have we been fooled into thinking this is some good thing? Just bizarre to me that I’m starting to see stuff like this pop up.

Fewer white people, more Central and South American people in the USA
Circumcision isn't popular south of the border.
ETA: Popular in Africa because it helps prevent AIDS
quote:
HIV Prevention: Evidence from several randomized controlled trials in high-prevalence areas of Africa demonstrated that voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) significantly reduces the risk of female-to-male HIV transmission by approximately 60%.
STI Reduction: Medical male circumcision has also been shown to reduce the incidence of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including human papillomavirus (HPV) and herpes simplex virus type 2 infections.
Public Health Rollouts: The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNAIDS have recommended the scale-up of VMMC in 14 priority countries in Eastern and Southern Africa with high HIV prevalence and historically low circumcision rates as an additional HIV prevention strategy.

Removing the chance of smegma should be reason enough to go with a circumcision.

You seem to spend a lot of time thinking about young children’s genitals

Patriots are finally fighting back against the harvesting of chemical adrenochrome from foreskin by the elite pedos

Outside of phimosis, there really is no reason to have it done. People bring up cleanliness issues but cleaning yourself routinely and thoroughly should be done no matter how much skin you have on your pecker.

Pretty much entirely overblown. Very minor health benefits longterm with the risk of medical complications short term, so mostly a wash.

That's just reddit being reddit.
For rational people who are against, it comes down to the long term medical benefits being minor, the short term medical complication possibility being a bit scary (don't google "botched circumcision" before lunch), and the fact that it's a permanent body modification decision that's better left to the individual.
With that said, anyone calling to legally ban it is an authoritarian idiot, in my opinion.

That’s what I’m saying. I’m eternally grateful my parents did this when I had no ability to remember it.

I don't know. I thought getting circumcised was normal until there was a thread about it awhile back. I learned that it is popular not to get circumcised. There are female posters who post here whose kids are not circumcised. I thought that was something they did to every male after he is born.

Same. I didn’t realize that either.
I won’t speak for the ladies but I can’t imagine the alternative is more attractive in bed. Yuck.

I've never understood this practice. It's genital mutilation for boys and they don't have a say in the matter. Cuts sensation by 80% at least. The whole hygiene thing is overblown if you know how to shower.
Plus, if you believe in intelligent design, why do you make alterations to it from jump?
Just stupid. Wish I still had mine.
