Anybody playing Outer Worlds 2?

Man, they definitely didn’t do a good job promoting how awesome this was going to be.
If you played the first one, which was good but small, this is that with a bigger budget and way more development and choice.
Obsidian might’ve blown it with Avowed but this feels like playing Fallout New Vegas again

I never play Obsidian games at release, but I’m certainly keeping my eye on it.

I might check it out when it comes to ps5 eventually.
The first game was 40$ I recall and this one just doesnt look like its a 70$ value to me. This isnt an insult EX 33 was a 50$ game and was amazing so ill pick it up on pc gamepass or ps5 eventually when the price drops. Glad youre enjoying it OP.

Hadn't started it yet, but I loved the first one so glad to hear this. Will have to get into it this week.

Been a tough couple days of decisions for me between BF6 and Outer Worlds

I was concerned after Avowed, but so far it is a much better experience overall. It's a bigger, better version of Outer Worlds 1 which is about as much as you can ask for.
I would still say it's a step down RPG-wise from New Vegas or Pillars/Tyranny. I'm still not entirely immersed in the world they have created for this series, and it's unfortunate that they can't quite seem to make compelling companions anymore.
I will give Avowed another shot one day. It's more palatable if you look at it as an action game with RPG elements. It was just jarring going from KCD 2 to that game. The utterly punishing gear system was the game's biggest issue though. I have been told that this has been improved with subsequent patches.

I went straight from KCD2 to Avowed so I feel you. It’s worth another shot.
Is Outer Worlds 2 going to be on Gamepass?

It’ll be on there the 29th I believe
It’s been early access the last few days

I actually just grabbed the first one on a recent sale. My backlog is just really impressive. I would have to LOVE the first one to consider the second one.
I have been watching some of Tim Cain's YT videos. He really is a treasure from my earlier years of PC gaming. Without a doubt, along with Civ II, the classic Fallout games (pre "Elder Scrolls: Fallout" era) were my jams, back in the day. I even played Fallout tactics.

I own the first one on PS4 but couldn't get past the intro.

I was the same. Took me a couple tries over the years to play it, but once you get past the first couple of quests it really picks up and is very enjoyable. I'm glad I decided to do it.
I'll probably start the 2nd one next week, good to see everyone has been positive about it.

How is the tone of the game? I enjoyed Outer Worlds 1 but the constant zaniness and not taking itself seriously wore on me a bit by the end.
Posted on 10/31/25 at 6:59 am to STLDawg
Seems a little more serious
Posted on 10/31/25 at 8:36 am to STLDawg
It’s more serious but the humor is still there.
It’s just dark humor

I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Got all the skill checks I like in rpgs and the combat is improved (not perfect) over the first game.

As I play more, I will say that it is not flawless.
The "as the crow flies" objective marker is infuriating at best and useless at worst.
There are a lot of named NPCs that have expansive dialogue trees but virtual zero side quests or any real purpose.
The game balance is busted. You either steamroll the enemy or they steamroll you. There isn't much in between.
It is a UE5 game with lack of optimization that is on par with Borderlands 4, but Borderland's implementation of Frame Gen is far superior.

I am playing it.
It is fine.
The Good:
-Larger maps, more to explore
-More humor, and they lean into the silliness
-They make fun of both the excesses of capitalists and the abject stupidity of anti-capitalists
-Cosmetically the armors and weapons are widely varied
-Gunplay is really good. Melee is useless, unless you are a sneak-thief
-Some good companions
The Bad:
-Not enough weapon and armor variety.
-All weapon within a type are functionally the same. if you get an assault rifle at the start of the game, there is no reason to get another one, ever
-All armor within a type are the same: Light, Medium, Heavy,
-Not a single attractive character in the game, except for maybe the butch lesbo in the ad to start the game.
-Body Type 1 & 2
-The story is not very compelling several hours in.
-Most companions are whiny as frick.
well into the game. 6/10. If decisions and writing start paying off, could end up a solid 7
