Scott Woodward...Someone should explain how this man should keep his job?

Let's recap.
He didn't hire Coach O so he can't take credit for that 2019 team/staff, which was in place before he arrived. He did give O that extension after the 2019 season only to fire him less than one season later. He also gave large raises to the football staff during covid, which only raised the buyouts for the rest of the staff when he fired O months later
He gave BK that massive deal, which fell apart in less than 4 seasons. No cfp appearances. No sec titles. The only constant is how SW threw money at the problem with staffing. Frank Wilson makes over $1m/year. He let go of Blake Baker just to bring him back and give him the highest salary for an assistant coach in cfb. Austin Thomas makes over $800k/year. He's been back and forth at lsu too. They didn't retain Corey Raymond just to bring him back. Now they have to buy out not only BK, but his overpaid staff just to go and hire another expensive head coach with an expensive staff.
You get this AD job at LSU to win on the football field. Jay Johnson was a great hire, but that doesn't make up for this massive whiff. He's now responsible for hiring the coaches with the two largest buyouts in cfb history. He left A&M and Washington in bad financial positions. How has he earned the trust to go spend another huge number on a fb coach and staff?

I do not see how anyone who has a say and can pass a sobriety test would empower SW to hire the next HC.
BK was a lazy hire. But it sounded good on paper for SW.

As an aside, Jimbo Fisher's buyout was so huge because A&M gave him an extension AFTER Woodward left. I've seen way to many commentators hang that buyout on Woodward.

Coup or not it was a lazy hire embossed with an even worse contract. Had SW done his homework he would've seen that. Example: when someone has coached as long as BK had through '21, they become legendary. Players want to play for the legend before he retires. I have never hear anyone speak of playing for Kelly in these terms. There may be an outlier that has. And that 4-8 in Y7 at ND. Hmmmm?
A&M - not my circus; not my monkeys. No care.

Did you really make a new account just to post this?

It was the contract for pretty much all coaches hired that season. Remember Mel Tucker lol?
It was the market then

Woodward gave him 10/$75 million in 2017. At the time, that was the highest ever. He also has a history of leaving departments in bad financial situations. He left Washington with a $14 million deficit when he left. A&M was in a rough spot too when he left. He's routinely operated at a deficit at LSU despite record high revenue coming in.

Dan Lanning Marcus Freeman and Mario Cristobal were hired in that hiring cycle.
That is 3 of the top 12.
2 of which were in the CFP last year.
The other was the last team out.
Just because Scott couldn’t think outside of the box a little bit doesn’t mean there wasn’t options.

What was Lanning’s buyout?

Well, based on the Kelly hire and contract, he should not be allowed to frick this up a 2nd time (or a 3rd counting Jimbo). But that's just me...

I think kickbacks are involved.

LSU needs to get an university president. Like, what's going on with that?

I’ll take an unpopular opinion: we have a great AD at LSU. I hope he’s AD at LSU for a long time and has the power/authority to make moves within the AD. Scott Woodward wants the best for LSU and has the smarts and skills to do the job well.
The Kelly hire hasn’t worked out, and it needs to be criticized and learned from. Our AD took a big shot and it didn’t work out. Hiring football coaches isn’t easy and 95% of the time doesn’t work out, but I want our AD taking the shots.
Downvote me, because right now is the worst possible moment to support Woodward, but I personally think we’ve got a great AD.

You forgot to mention his basketball acumen. McMahon.

If he protected Davis as is being reported then he should be released tomorrow morning. I don’t trust him to make a decent hire anyway.

Appreciate he is gone too. Landry wants him gone and the AD from McNeese is coming in

Reading boards after quake type of events are hilarious. To the comment about hiring those coaches who weren’t head coaches before and were just good coordinators and looking at what they’ve done since, is horseshite. This place was in an uproar of going whale hunting and didn’t want a up and coming coordinator.
It’s hard to feel bad for anyone who has to make these types of decisions and see them turn out to be bad, but you ultimately got the best coach at that time based on his body of work. It didn’t work out, unfortunate as it may be.
