Why should the Athletic Director dictate to his coach what moves to make?

Woodworth hired him to be the Head Coach. Let Kelly do his job as he sees fit. Maybe dictate how many wins he needs to keep his job, but not what moves he needs to make.

When your boss no longer trusts your decision making, he will meddle in your decision making. This is the real world, with hundreds of millions at stake.

Woodworth is not a coach. Let the expert handle what he was hired for (Kelly).

This is standard when the HC is on the way out.

This and the fact they quickly came to an agreement tells me maybe that was Woody / LSU goal from the beginning. Demand changes they know Kelly would be against in order to force the issue to make him want out.

It’s pretty simple, Scott Woodward is ultimately responsible for Brian Kelly’s performance, and Kelly failing reflects very poorly on Woodward’s judgement. Therefore Woodward is going to do whatever in his opinion will help Kelly succeed rather than be forced to fire him, thereby harming Woodward’s standing as well.

Because Mr. Kelly, you sucked at your job which made it doubly worse Woody felt the need to intervene.

You’re absolutely right. When you pay someone $10 per season it’s waaaay too late to think about micromanaging.

With that kind of salary and HC experience you demand accountability but get out of the way.
