You are not getting a good coach for less than 10 million a year

You have to pay to play. 100 million contracts are the normal pay for big time college football programs. The contract is not the issue. Is Kelly worth the results he's produced so far? Absolutely not. But the next coach at LSU will have another 100 million dollar contract with a huge buyout.

Nobody disputes this.

I think everyone was kinda wondering what the frick Woodward was doing from the jump.

The most optimistic people took the stance of “I guess let’s give this guy a shot, he’s historically a really good coach.” I don’t know anyone that was actually excited about the hire. More so optimistic to move on from O.

Elko is on a 6 year, $7 million contract. He looks okay to me.

I turned in my LSU fanhood yesterday evening.

This is worse than being a fan of WWE wrestling. The amount of money given to coaches and players who are amateurs. It’s a professional franchise. Not a university.

and if he ends up not being much better than what?

that’s the real fear

we better be praying whoever is next up can right the ship

like how BK, Baker and many others were suppose to

Elko will have a new contract at the end of this season and will probably be top 5 paid coach

You can get an up and coming coach. You don’t have to get a top tier coach that is already a winner at a top tier coach at a top FBS program.

Go cheap and risk it with an up and comer that specializes in one side of the ball. Let them prove themselves and earn that salary.

UW didn’t pay DeBoer top tier salary. He earned it while he was there.

Maybe a young, hungry coach with success at G5 or even FCS is better than a "splash hire". I'd rather go that route and hire good coordinators. Is cost and production efficient.

What was the Indiana coach making before this year? What about the Vanderbilt coach?

Yes you can get a good coach for less than $10m per year but you have to be able to identify someone based upon their potential not the past. (See LSU hiring Saban in 2000)

You don’t have to try to go poach a big name established coach. This is the same mindset that led us into this mess and the same thing Woodward had failed massively at twice

Look at a lot of the guys being successful right now. Elko/Huepel/Lanning/Cignetti/Lea/Brent Key.

You can try and get an up and comer. Key/Lea/Summerall could all be gotten for much less than 10 mill.

shite kick the tires on Colin Klein at least we’d have a HC who knew how one side of the ball worked

And when that "up and coming" coach fails. LSU will be even further in the hole.

Defending Brian Kelly at this point is certainly a choice.

You’re not getting a good one for $100 mil currently.

Might as well go cheap for a few years. Can probably find someone to win 8 games for half the money.

How? It’s literally impossible to be in a worse position than we currently are or than when we were under O. There’s no evidence that up and comer type coaches do any better or worse than big established retreads.

Sure we’d all love Dan Lanning or Ryan Day. But they aren’t coming. At least an up and comer is cheap and you don’t have to lock them in with a huge buyout, that’s better than what we have now

I'm not defending BK. It's time to move on, he has lost control of the program. I'm saying to get the program back up to par, it's going to take a big name with a big money contract

But we don't have the money, that's the issue. If we fire BK now, we're 100% going to have to pay someone up and coming. The money isn't there to spend 13+ million on a coach

Mike Norvell original contract was 6 year 26.5 million. He won 13 games two years ago and got a similar deal as Kelly. He is 1-11 in ACC since signing that contract. You never know.
