I would be all over that as a prisoner. I would want it to be based on watt hours instead of just time in the saddle.

I would volunteer to be on bike duty as long as I could every day in order to whittle that sentence down to time served.

Good public relations for the prison, but the amount of power those three bikes generate is minuscule. I remember having a light on my bicycle that was powered off the wheel. It was barely bright enough to see when you were pedaling your arse off.

(1) take bike apart when guards aren't looking
(2) use disassembled bike part to stab other inmate who looked at them funny
(3) ???

My only issue is they're gaining endurance. Might make them harder to catch when they get out and commit crimes again.
